Seven years and 92 episodes since the OVA (original video animation) finale, Hunter x Hunter gets rebooted with a new production company and voice cast.

The story follows Gon, a 12-year-old boy, on his quest to find his father, who left him as a baby with his aunt to become a Hunter. Hunters are licensed adventurers who take on all sorts of dangerous jobs, from tracking dangerous animals and criminals, to finding rare items.

Each year there is a Hunter exam where only one or two of the 400 participants pass the gruelling tests. In order to understand and find his father, Gon decides to follow in his father's footsteps and become a Hunter himself.

Hunter x Hunter is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi who is also known for his other famous creation Yu Yu Hakusho, which was also adapted into an anime series. The new anime adaption is a complete reboot and, like Dragon Ball Kai, promises to be more faithful to the original manga.

The series is directed by Hiroshi Kojina who previously directed Neuro - Supernatural Detective, with animation production by Madhouse (Monster, Death Note).

The rebooted series began airing on Nippon Television on October 2. Hopefully it will come to Hong Kong soon. If you can't wait, the show is being streamed online at Crunchyroll.
