Graffiti workshops at Hongkong International Terminals turn dull rubbish bins into works of art

Ordinary rubbish bins at Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) were turned into works of art on Saturday. For environment week, HIT partnered with The Warehouse Teenage Club to organise a graffiti art project for staff and their children.
The workshop at the container terminal began with a lesson about graffiti. After the class, participants put on gloves and masks and began spraying paint onto the rubbish bins. "It's interesting learning how to turn ordinary-shaped English characters into different shapes," said Chin Yiu-hong, a Form Two student from Notre Dame College. "And you can still put your own artistic talent into the graffiti."
HIT wants to promote cleanliness within its terminals by making rubbish bins more vibrant and attractive. Creating a fun, family day was a great way to achieve this.
The graffiti art workshop will be expanded to schools in Kwai Tsing district, as well as to the public, over the next two months. Admission is free. For application details, contact The Warehouse Teenage Club (tel: 2873 2244).
