Three philanthropists sponsor local tour for disadvantaged families in Hong Kong

Three philanthropic organisations have joined forces to sponsor a local tour for 12 disadvantaged families from the New Territories to browse the city and experience its vibrant atmosphere.

The families visited some of Hong Kong’s most iconic landmarks, such as the historic Clock Tower, bustling Times Square, and a ride on the famous Star Ferry. They also enjoyed the Hong Kong Observation Wheel at Central.

“We were proud to be a part of today’s initiative, which gave these families an experience to create lasting memories and broaden their horizons, particularly for the new generation,” said Frances Luk, team leader of SCMP Serve, the volunteering arm of one of the city’s leading media organisations which led the initiative.

The cost of the tour, including transport, meals, and activities, was funded by the South China Morning Post, The Palace Group, and Inchcape Greater China.

Inchcape Greater China, a leading automotive company in the region, provided transport for the tour. Carina Chow, Head of Corporate Communications and ESG said: “We hope there will be more collaborations. Our mission is simple but important, it is to ensure the families’ comfortable and convenient ride throughout the tour.”

The Palace Group, a giant of the city’s food and drink sector, provided a dim sum breakfast for the group, including the volunteers.

Chan Shou-ming, founder of The Palace Group, said they were happy to give back to the community. “We were thrilled to be able to offer these families a chance to see Hong Kong in all its glory. I hope to have more engagements with more people in need ... and inspire and empower them to pursue their dreams.”

Luk, from the SCMP, said the media group would continue its support in different ways, on top of the signature events such as Operation Santa Claus and the Spirit of Hong Kong Awards.
