1. Don't forget to brush

It's a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste. Yes, I know what you're thinking: isn't that supposed to be in the bathroom? Eww, right?

But during the weekends, after many hours of sleep, my laziness takes over. I have a habit of doing everything, like watching TV or doing my homework, other than brushing my teeth. So the toothbrush and toothpaste are a reminder to stop being lazy and actually brush my teeth!

2. A grisly plan

Standing alone at the back of my desk is a Spider-Man action figure's muscular right leg, detached from its body. It's the first item of my collection of missing body parts, so that I can make a "Frankentoy" out of them one day.

Annette Kim, 15, Chinese International School

3. Care for bear

I have a sponge on my desk because, well, I know it sounds stupid, but I thought that it would be more comfy for my little Rilakkuma bear to sit on.

Helen Wu Yan-hang, 17, NTHYK Yuen Long District Secondary School

4. Tidying up

Weirdly enough, I have a mooncake box on my desk. No, I haven't been hoarding mooncakes since September. Instead, I've been using the box to store little trinkets that were lying around. It's a win-win situation for me and the environment!

Cynthia Huang, 15, Chinese International School

5. Soap over stress

I have a heart-shaped soap on my desk, which carries special meaning for me as a token from my best friend. Whenever studies get me down, I look at the soap and think of my best friend. It really helps energise me, and washes away the stress. Plus, it makes my room smell great.

6. Your biggest fan

My own personal portable fan. Why is it there? Not to cool me down but to make my desk a little bit "cooler" than everyone else's! After all, what is cooler than a mini fan?

Tayyab Shahzada, 15, Sha Tin College

7. Showing teeth

The weirdest thing on my desk is a tooth. It's very valuable to me because it's the first tooth that fell out, as far as I can remember. To this day, it strikes me as ironic because I had tried all sorts of methods, like tying it to a doorknob, to get it out. But then one fine day, I fell off a slide and it popped out all by itself.

Anirudh Kannan, 14, South Island School

8. Breath of fresh air

I've had a snake plant on my desk over the past year, and I definitely won't be removing it. Snake plants improve air quality a lot. They clear up indoor air pollution (created by things like painting or cooking), and best of all, produce oxygen at night, instead of using it up.

Yasmin Subba, 19, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

9. Carry the can

I've got this weird mini rubbish bin on my desk. I sneeze a lot in the cold weather and can use up a whole box of tissues in a very short time. Since I can't stand the sight of used tissues stacked up like a mountain on my desk, I put this small cylinder-shaped tin can on my desk so I can throw my rubbish in there. My friends think it is weird, but I'm just too lazy to walk all the way to the kitchen and back to my room!

Regina Cheng, 15, Cheung Chuk Shan College

10. Ancient art

The weirdest thing on my desk is a clay Egyptian pot which I made and painted with my former art teacher when I was eight or nine years old. Even though I made it a long time ago, it has held together and I put a lot of random stuff in it, like post-its and paperclips.

Liam Fung, 13, Chinese International School
