Representation

Media representation is how things like books, movies and TV shows deal with and present ethnicity, gender, age, sexuality, religious beliefs, national and regional identity, social issues and events to an audience. Media has the power to shape an audience’s knowledge and understanding about these important topics. If a sector of society is not represented in media, it can shape a person's expectations of themselves and their lives. It is important that the diversity of the real world is reflected in media.
