Supported late in betting, Highland Reel cleared to lead from a tricky gate, didn't panic when Harbour Master circled the field to lead 1,200m out, peeled three deep soon after straightening and finished well to take control 150m out for the win. Favourite Flintshire hit the front 250m out following a handy run and found one better on the day. Dariyan was niggled to hold a position behind midfield and one off the fence, switched to the outside of a tiring Helene Happy Star at the 300m and closed off well despite a tendency to lay in to finish a clear third. Ming Dynasty had two behind him coming to the final bend, straightened six deep and ran on well to run to grab a Quartet spot 50m out. Helene Happy Star was prominent along the fence behind slow early sections, briefly hit the front at the 300m and was yielding ground 100m out. Dominant made some ground without menacing after travelling second from the rear. Preferment made only a mild bid widest out after travelling deep with cover beyond midfield. Specked late, Ensuring never let down after saving ground fourth from the rear. Harbour Master was stopping 250m out after taking off from near the back to lead 1,200m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (247)-THE LONGINES HONG KONG VASE - Group One - 2400Metres

As the start was effected, KHAYA lifted is front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin.

Then a short distance after the start, KHAYA was steadied when crowded for room between FLINTSHIRE and DARIYAN which shifted out.

MING DYNASTY was slow to begin and then shifted out towards the heels of ENSURING shortly after the start.

HELENE SUPER STAR began awkwardly.

For some distance in the early stages, MING DYNASTY proved very difficult to settle and passing the winning post on the first occasion became badly unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of DARIYAN.

Approaching the 1600 Metres, CANNOCK CHASE was left racing wide and without cover.

After the 1400 Metres, HARBOUR MASTER was ridden along to improve its position around the field into the lead.

Immediately after the running of this race, the Stewards became aware that CANNOCK CHASE, saddle cloth number 3, had been inadvertently signalled as the 3rd placegetter in this race rather than DARIYAN, saddle cloth number 13, which did in fact finish 3rd.

This matter was rectified by the Judge a short time later with DARIYAN correctly being signalled as the 3rd placegetter.

Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, the Stewards confirmed that the betting system would pay out on the correct numbers and accordingly weighed-in was semaphored at the normal time.

HIGHLAND REEL and FLINTSHIRE were sent for sampling.
