Recap by phillip woo

Punted late Bossiee came on strongly after angling out for a clear run at the 350m following a midfield run to win going away 180m out for a third win from 34 starts. He was a Class Four horse in a Class Five race. Danewin Express finished nicely after travelling third from the rear on the back of a strong pace to mow down favourite Rewarding Flyer in deep stretch for second. He's capable of big runs but has trouble winning. Rewarding Flyer briefly poked his head in front approaching the 200m following a one-off run travelling a distant third behind the cut-throat pace of Young Dreamer and Friends Forever but was on his tipped toes 50m out. He's placed in his past three of four at this level but has had his chance and the long season may be taking its toll. Optimism stuck on reasonably well travelling fore of midfield to give the Quartet some value in a rare positive performance at Sha Tin. He might be ready to produce his best with a return to the Valley. Young Dreamer didn't stop all that badly after a hard time up front to add some merit to a surprise front-running fourth last time out.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (607)-AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1400Metres

HASTILY FEET was withdrawn on 29.4.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GOOD MATE (K C Ng).

Before being allowed to race again, HASTILY FEET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

BOSSIEE began only fairly and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of GOOD MATE.

DANEWIN EXPRESS began awkwardly.

FRIENDS FOREVER shifted out at the start and bumped LUCKY PLACE which in turn shifted out and bumped BE THERE AHEAD.

Then, from the outside barriers, LUCKY PLACE and BE THERE AHEAD were shifted across behind runners.

BE THERE AHEAD subsequently finished tailed out.

A veterinary inspection of BE THERE AHEAD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of BE THERE AHEAD was considered unacceptable.

Having regard to BE THERE AHEAD being previously tailed out in its races, the Stewards ruled that the horse will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

Passing the 500 Metres, DANEWIN EXPRESS was shifted in away from the heels of STRIKING STAR.

Near the 150 Metres, WINNER ST PAUL'S got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of YOUNG DREAMER.

Then approaching the 100 Metres, WINNER ST PAUL'S was steadied away from the heels of YOUNG DREAMER (Apprentice H T Mo) which shifted in under pressure.

Apprentice Mo was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

The performance of GOOD MATE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, GOOD MATE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that DANEWIN EXPRESS had bled from both nostrils.

A veterinary inspection of STRIKING STAR immediately following the race confirmed the horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.

A veterinary inspection of WINNER ST PAUL'S immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

REWARDING FLYER, BOSSIEE and DANEWIN EXPRESS were sent for sampling.
