Recap by phillip woo

Neorealism took off from near the back to lead passing 1,000m out after a sluggish break and had enough left in the tank to hold off the local favourites to bring overseas glory yet again to Japan. Joao Moreira's timely move proved decisive. Pakistan Star jumped very well, dragged back to midfield as the race changed complexion at the 1,000m and hit top stride 150m out to make it close in the end. He's a rising star at 2,000m and possibly further. Werther stayed on well after travelling fore of midfield to finish a close third. He ran well but might be better on a track with some give. Old-timer Blazing Speed stalked the speed and wouldn't go down without a fight. He's got a heart of gold but isn't going to find it any easier. The United States had every chance dictating slow fractions for half the race but couldn't turn it up another gear in the straight drive. He's not good enough at this level of competition. Secret Weapon made some ground without ever looking a threat travelling second from the back. The pedestrian pace went against him.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (614)-THE AUDEMARS PIGUET QEII CUP - Group One - 2000Metres

DICTON was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, THE UNITED STATES shifted in and bumped PAKISTAN STAR.

After this, PAKISTAN STAR got its head up, travelled keenly, shifted in and bumped WERTHER.

PAKISTAN STAR and WERTHER again bumped approaching the winning post on the first occasion.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, NEOREALISM got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover behind WERTHER.

After this, NEOREALISM continued to travel keenly for some distance.

For some distance in the middle stages, NEOREALISM was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WERTHER and passing the 1100 Metres was shifted out and allowed to improve into the lead.

Passing the 1200 Metres, WERTHER got its head up when awkwardly placed behind BLAZING SPEED.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on WERTHER at the request of Trainer J Moore.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, WERTHER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of DESIGNS ON ROME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

WERTHER, NEOREALISM and PAKISTAN STAR were sent for sampling.
