Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed late, Time Warp was nicely rated on the front and found plenty more in the straight drive to draw clear for a first win in a track record time after placing in two of seven other starts. He was suited by the rise in trip and does appear to love the Valley. He can head higher now. Big Bang Bong found one too smart on this occasion following a boxseat. He has been running well at both tracks and appears to have the tools to add to two earlier wins. Dynamism ran on late for a placing following a patient ride fourth from the rear. He rarely runs a bad race at the Valley. Let Us Win made some ground from behind midfield to fill a Quartet spot. He's starting to find his legs in his past two of nine starts but may need to drop a grade to open his win account. Gonna Run ran on late without menacing after travelling third from the rear. He needs to drop further in the handicaps. Posttime favourite Packing Dragon lost a placing 100m after working very hard to stalk the leader one off in second from a wide gate. He had excuses and is never one to write off at the Valley.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (731)-WYNDHAM HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1800Metres

BIG BANG BONG shifted out at the start and bumped DYNAMISM.

GONNA RUN, FRIENDS OF KA YING and KING GENKI were all crowded for room shortly after the start between ANDOYAS and SPEEDY LONGWAH which, after being bumped by PACKING DRAGON, became unbalanced and shifted in.

From the outside barrier, INVENTOR was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

PACKING DRAGON travelled wide and without cover until passing the 1000 Metres.

Passing the 1000 Metres, DYNAMISM raced tight between SPEEDY LONGWAH and LET US WIN which shifted out away from the heels of RENAISSANCE ART.

Passing the 300 Metres, ANDOYAS was shifted in away from the heels of KING GENKI which was giving ground.

Also passing the 300 Metres, GONNA RUN got its head on the side and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of KING GENKI.

When questioned, N Callan stated that he was asked to ride SPEEDY LONGWAH behind the speed if possible in about 3rd, 4th or 5th position from a wide barrier.

He said it was felt that KING GENKI would be able to show speed in the early stages to possibly lead the race and with PACKING DRAGON being drawn to the outside of SPEEDY LONGWAH, it was further anticipated that that horse may be able to race outside KING GENKI which would provide SPEEDY LONGWAH with the opportunity to obtain cover in a forward position.

He said in accordance with his instructions, he rode his mount positively in the early stages to ensure that SPEEDY LONGWAH would be able to assume a forward position.

He said KING GENKI did not show as much speed as he anticipated and PACKING DRAGON took some time to improve its position forward of SPEEDY LONGWAH.

He said having asked SPEEDY LONGWAH for an effort in the early stages, he did not believe that the horse would have sufficient speed to cross KING GENKI and therefore after the 1200 Metres he allowed PACKING DRAGON to improve forward of SPEEDY LONGWAH and attempted to obtain a position behind KING GENKI with cover.

He said passing the 1100 Metres FRIENDS OF KA YING was ridden along to ensure that it maintained its position to the inside of SPEEDY LONGWAH and this resulted in his mount being left racing wide and without cover throughout the race.

He added SPEEDY LONGWAH came under heavy pressure after the 600 Metres and then in the early part of the Straight made an abnormal breathing noise and became unbalanced in its action.

He said as he held concerns over the welfare of the horse, he eased it down in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of SPEEDY LONGWAH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of SPEEDY LONGWAH, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, SPEEDY LONGWAH will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, D Whyte stated that, in his opinion, KING GENKI is better suited to races on the All Weather Track as the horse travelled only fairly in the race and gave ground in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of KING GENKI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of FRIENDS OF KA YING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

PACKING DRAGON, TIME WARP and BIG BANG BONG were sent for sampling.
