Racing Incident Report
Race Eight: (253) - SEA EAGLE HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters
DANCES WITH DRAGON and MAGNETISM were hampered on jumping by GOLD LAND which shifted out abruptly.
On jumping, SKY MELODY was steadied to obtain cover.
SLEEP EDUCATION and SICHUAN BOSS bumped shortly after the start.
From wide barriers, MERRYGOWIN, HAR HAR HEART and SLEEP EDUCATION were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After the 1300 Metres, RELENTLESS ME and SKY MELODY raced tight.
Near the 50 Metres, LOOKING GOOD raced tight outside SKY MELODY.
After the race, Z Purton (SKY MELODY) explained that passing the 500 Metres he was racing directly behind LOOKING GOOD which at this time was being ridden along.
He said RELENTLESS ME, which was racing to the inside of LOOKING GOOD, was improving its position, he therefore elected to shift SKY MELODY in to follow RELENTLESS ME through rounding the Home Turn rather than shifting to the outside of LOOKING GOOD and having to cover extra ground.
He said SKY MELODY improved its position well rounding the Home Turn and at the entrance to the Straight he directed his mount to the inside of MY ALLY as a run did not present itself outside that horse and inside RELENTLESS ME.
He said after shifting to the inside of SICHUAN BOSS, SKY MELODY was then held up for clear running approaching and passing the 200 Metres when he was unable to improve between SICHUAN BOSS and GOLD LAND.
He added he then shifted SKY MELODY to the outside of SICHUAN BOSS after the 150 Metres after which SKY MELODY raced tight outside SICHUAN BOSS over the concluding stages when that horse shifted out marginally.
He said because of this he was not able to fully test SKY MELODY over the latter stages of the race.
A veterinary inspection of SLEEP EDUCATION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
SKY MELODY, DANCES WITH DRAGON and MY ALLY were sent for sampling.
GENERAL:

9 December 2018 Sha Tin Racemeeting - Race 9 (244) After having reviewed the videos, the Stewards tonight questioned G van Niekerk regarding his riding of BREEDERS' STAR, principally in the Home Straight.
G van Niekerk stated that after having to race wide throughout the race, he placed BREEDERS' STAR under pressure in the early part of the Straight.
He said at this time LIMITLESS was able to improve its position from racing behind BREEDERS' STAR to establish a margin on his mount.
He said WINSTON'S LAD, which he had been racing outside of rounding the Home Turn, was also able to establish a margin on BREEDERS' STAR despite him testing his mount.
He said after riding BREEDERS' STAR along in the early part of the Straight, the horse did not respond to his riding and shortened stride and he considered easing it down passing the 300 Metres.
He added BREEDERS' STAR then commenced to finish off the race better after the 200 Metres albeit that the horse was never in contention of running a placing.
He said as BREEDERS' STAR was not finishing off the race such that it could place in the race, he therefore did not ride it out vigorously over the concluding stages.
G van Niekerk was told that his riding of BREEDERS' STAR in the Home Straight had come under notice.
He was placed on notice that he has a requirement, under the Rules of Racing, to properly test his mounts where circumstances permit.
He was further advised to ensure that he rides his mounts out with sufficient vigour so as not to leave his riding open to query.

Additional Veterinary Reports from Sha Tin Racemeeting on 9 December 2018 Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of SMART CHARADE, NOBLE DE LOVE, REGENCY LEGEND, JING JING WIN, BIGWOOD, HO HO KHAN, HO HO FEEL, WALDGEIST, EXULTANT, LYS GRACIEUX, MR STUNNING, D B PIN, INSAYSHABLE, TIGRE DU TERRE, BEAUTY GENERATION, VIVLOS, GLORIOUS FOREVER, DEIRDRE, RAGING STORM, HINCHINLOVE, NICCONI EXPRESS, ENCOURAGING and NOBLE STEED revealed no apparent abnormality.

Racing Laboratory tests of HOLY UNICORN, MI BLANCO, PERFECT MATCH, HAINAN STAR, TRAVEL FIRST, KING'S MAN, DRAGON WARRIOR, EVER STRONG, JIMSON THE FAMOUS, HAPPY TOUR, FLYING LOVER, SPEEDY KING, REFINED TREASURE, BIG PARTY, DASHING GAINER, HANG'S DECISION, NUCLEAR POWER, UGLY WARRIOR, BIG TIME BABY, GUNNISON, TAKING AIM, MR SO AND SO and DIAMOND RHYME (2.12.18) proved negative.

Dances With Dragon quickened nicely travelling one-off behind midfield to grab victory in the last stride. It was finally his day after flashing some ability in few of his 12 earlier runs. My Ally did everything right chasing the leader with cover but get the win from a better draw on this occasion. He's a winner waiting to happen. Relentless Me stayed on reasonably well following a one-off run in midfield. Punted late Gold Land stayed on a non-threatening fourth following a box-seat run. It wasn't a bad run but he does tend to find it hard in this grade. Har Har Heart got going late near the outside without menacing following a patient ride fourth from the rear. Favourite Sky Melody was all dressed up with nowhere to go following a one-off run in midfield. Pretty Bauhinia found nothing when popped the question travelling behind midfield on the fence despite a return to Class Three. He's not racing well at the moment and will need to see a turnaround first.
