Recap by phillip woo

Massive Move had enough in the tank to hold off Whistle Up after hitting the front 200m out sitting prominent in the centre of the course. He did put the writing on the wall two back over this trip and was well rated off a pair of wins last term. Whistle Up came on nicely near the far side after badly bombing the start to make it close on the wire. It was a terrific effort first run back following a leg issue in November. Post-time favourite District Express stuck on all right up on the speed for third. He's a winner waiting to happen at this level but is better suited over a longer trip. Early favourite Paddington kept grinding away following a handy run to just hold down fourth. He can bob up now and then but is risky at short odds. Happy Sound made some ground after settling worse than midfield. He's capable but is not genuine. Ruminare led and was on his tippy toes 100m out. He's better suited over the 1,200m.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (384) - JOCKEY CLUB ROAD HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1000Meters

As the start was effected, WHISTLE UP, which was restless in the barriers, lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently lost a considerable amount of ground.

Before being allowed to race again, WHISTLE UP will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

DISTRICT EXPRESS began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BEST RUNNER.

RUMINARE was crowded for room on jumping between MASSIVE MOVE and PADDINGTON which shifted in.

BLACK TECH shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of MONEY MARSHAL which became unbalanced.

Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, HAPPY SOUND failed to muster speed.

In the early and middle stages, BEST RUNNER raced with its head on the side and lay in.

Near the 550 Metres, PADDINGTON and MASSIVE MOVE bumped as PADDINGTON attempted to improve inside RUMINARE where there was insufficient room.

Then after the 500 Metres, PADDINGTON was steadied and shifted to the inside of MASSIVE MOVE after being unable to establish running between RUMINARE and MASSIVE MOVE.

Near the 350 Metres, WINNING CIRCLE was shifted to the inside of BEST RUNNER after being unable to improve outside that horse.

T H So (WHISTLE UP) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 50 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out whilst being ridden with the whip when not clear of PADDINGTON, causing that horse to be badly crowded for room and taken out onto HAPPY SOUND which was in turn bumped and taken out across the rightful running of RUMINARE which was checked.

T H So was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 10 February 2019 and to expire on Monday, 18 February 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays).

The Stewards informed T H So that in assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that there was a high degree of carelessness attached to this incident which resulted in RUMINARE losing its rightful running and being checked and also the placings of PADDINGTON and HAPPY SOUND being compromised.

Over the concluding stages, WINNING CIRCLE got its head on the side and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DISTRICT EXPRESS.

A veterinary inspection of RUMINARE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

DISTRICT EXPRESS, MASSIVE MOVE and WHISTLE UP were sent for sampling.
