Recap by phillip woo

Joy Master came on nicely from behind midfield to take control 150m out for a maiden win at his 18th start. He had put the writing on the wall and was suited by the step up to 1,800m. Le Panache closed well after being ridden for luck from a wide gate. He's a winner waiting to happen after catching the eye in his past two of three starts. Savvy Seven ended up third best after briefly poking his head in front at the 200m following a midfield run on the fence. Liverbird Star just held on for fourth after stalking the leader Reeve's Muntjac in the run from an outside gate. It was a better effort second-up here. Gold Velvet ran on steadily travelling one off in midfield. He's more effective at the Valley. Blazing Partners came up one-paced following a box-seat run. He's not far off a bottom and step up to a mile might be worth a try. Punted late Reeve's Muntjac faded after rolling to the front along the fence 1,150m out. It was a shade better run in Class Five.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (87) - CHUNG ON HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1600Meters

BLAZING PARTNERS began awkwardly.

LUCKY STORM began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of LIVERBIRD STAR which became unbalanced.

After this, LUCKY STORM was shifted across behind runners.

M F Poon stated that, from a wide barrier, he was asked to ride LUCKY STORM, which was having its first start for a new stable today, quietly in order to have the horse finish off the race strongly.

He said when ridden more patiently, LUCKY STORM closed off the race satisfactorily.

He added over the concluding stages LUCKY STORM was not able to obtain clear running and consequently was not able to be tested all the way to the end of the race.

JOY MASTER shifted in at the start and bumped FRIENDS OF NANJING.

Passing the 1300 Metres, FRIENDS OF NANJING was steadied away from the heels of GOLD VELVET (A Domeyer) which shifted in.

A Domeyer was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

In the middle stages, REEVE'S MUNTJAC raced with its head on the side and lay out.

Throughout the race, FORTUNE WAY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

The performance of FORTUNE WAY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE WAY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE WAY immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer?? SAVVY SEVEN, JOY MASTER and LE PANACHE were sent for sampling.
