Racing Incident Report
Race Five: (101) - THE AMERICAN CLUB CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1800Meters
JOLLY GENE was withdrawn on 14.10.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (blood abnormality) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter DEFINING MOMENT.
Before being allowed to race again, JOLLY GENE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
DRAGON COMMANDER began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped TANGMERE.
After this, both DRAGON COMMANDER and TANGMERE were steadied to obtain cover.
Also from the outside barrier, DEFINING MOMENT was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Apprentice K H Chan (HEAVENLY THOUGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of CROWN AVENUE, causing that horse to be crowded for room and be checked away from the heels of HEAVENLY THOUGHT and to shift in and crowd the room of RULE THEE which lost its rightful running.
Apprentice Chan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 23 October 2019 and to expire on Monday, 28 October 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
Passing the 1500 Metres, TASHIDELEK and RULE THEE bumped.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, CROWN AVENUE got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of OWNERS' STAR which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GIANT TURTLE (A Domeyer) which shifted in when not quite clear.
A Domeyer was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, HEAVENLY THOUGHT raced tight inside OWNERS' STAR which was racing tight inside MARZOUQ after improving into restricted room inside that horse.
XIANG BAI QI and TASHIDELEK, which were following HEAVENLY THOUGHT and OWNERS' STAR respectively, were hampered in consequence.
After the race, L Hewitson expressed concern regarding the action of DRAGON COMMANDER which gave ground over the latter stages of the race.
A veterinary inspection of DRAGON COMMANDER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Before being allowed to race again, DRAGON COMMANDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that OWNERS' STAR had sustained a minor laceration to the right hind fetlock.
A veterinary inspection of DEFINING MOMENT and TANGMERE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
TASHIDELEK, OWNERS' STAR and CROWN AVENUE were sent for sampling.

Owners' Star mowed down Crown Avenue 50m out following a one-out, one-back run to open his win account at start seven. It was best run to date but he appeared to relish a return to the Valley. Crown Avenue wouldn't do down without a fight after straightening two lengths on top following a mid-race move from midfield to lead 700m out. Rule Thee finished well to snatch third on the wire after straightening third from the rear. Huangshan nearly got up for a placing after getting posted deep in midfield. He's building towards a win in his three starts and should get a longer trip as well. Giant Turtle gradually faded over the last 150m after handing up the lead to Crown Avenue. Tashidelek stayed on without ever looking a threat following a one-off run in midfield. He's crying out for a further trip. Early favourite Xiang Bai Qi came up one-paced travelling underneath Tashidelek in midfield. He had an off-day to continue the dismal run of the stable.
