Super Junior just out-finished Massive Pocket to grab victory 80m out after settling behind midfield after a sluggish start. Well-backed late Massive Pocket ran well after a prominent run on the stands side. He was able to back-up a last-start win. Take What You Need stayed on well following a handy run near the middle of the track to finish a close third. It was a pleasing debut and he appears to have room to climb off his current mark. Jumbo Prize stayed on reasonably well after a midfield run near the far side. He's honest but do prefer him sprinting at the Valley. Allied Agility was already giving ground when steadying late after vying for the lead. He might not have much upside off his current mark. California Gungho wasn't beaten too far in the end despite badly missing the start. He had an excuse. In Class Three for the first time, Hong Kong Win faded after dictating the run near the grandstand side. He's better suited at the Valley.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (164) - PANASONIC JUSTFIT THERMO VENTILATOR HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1000Meters

ETHIOPIAN YARN began awkwardly.

ALLIED AGILITY began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of BEAUT BEAUT which also shifted in.

MY BEGINNER'S LUCK shifted out at the start and bumped SUPER JUNIOR which in turn shifted out and bumped TAKE WHAT YOU NEED.

Shortly after the start, TAKE WHAT YOU NEED and HONG KONG WIN bumped.

At the 500 Metres, MASSIVE POCKET was steadied away from the heels of HONG KONG WIN.

After the 400 Metres, ALLIED AGILITY got its head on the side and lay out.

K C Leung (SUPER JUNIOR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that he permitted his mount to shift out over the concluding stages when not clear of ALLIED AGILITY, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled close to the finishing line.

K C Leung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Saturday, 23 November 2019 and to expire on Thursday, 28 November 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Leung's good race riding record.

The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if CALIFORNIA GUNGHO (J Moreira) had been afforded a fair start.

After viewing the videos at the start, in the presence of J Moreira and Starter, Mr A Speechley, J Moreira did not submit an application for CALIFORNIA GUNGHO to be declared a non-runner.

As it was established that CALIFORNIA GUNGHO put its head down and to the left simultaneously with the start being effected, they were satisfied that CALIFORNIA GUNGHO had been afforded a fair start and accordingly weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIA GUNGHO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on LIGHTNING STAR at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, LIGHTNING STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of MY BEGINNER'S LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CALIFORNIA GUNGHO, SUPER JUNIOR and MASSIVE POCKET were sent for sampling.
