In a blanket finish, equal-favourite Mighty Giant just got up in the shadows of the post for the win after a dream run on the back of the speed. He had put the writing on the wall following a move to blinkers at only his second start. Fantastic Show dashed strongly from near the back to miss by a bob of the heads. He continues to knock on the door and will be winning shortly. Care Free Prince led and wouldn't go down without a fight. He was suited by the wet track and the return to 10-pound claimer Alfred Chan Ka-hei. Co-favourite Breeze Of Spring ran on steadily to finish a non-threatening fourth following a midfield run. Iron King made some ground worse than midfield without menacing. He does appear from his past two starts to be heading in the right direction now. Winning Together was doing some nice work late after settling second last from a wide gate. It was another positive performance despite a rise in trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (289) - TAI TAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters

On arrival at the Start, C Y Ho expressed concern regarding the action of WINNING TOGETHER.

WINNING TOGETHER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who, after the necessary consultations, said the horse was suitable to race.

IRON KING began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped MIGHTY GIANT.

INCANTO PREPARED shifted in at the start and bumped WINSTON'S LAD which shifted in and inconvenienced BRIGHT KID.

From the outside barriers, WINNING TOGETHER and HUMBLE STEED were shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.

After travelling a short distance, SMART CHARADE, when being steadied, shifted in and bumped IRON KING.

Near the 1050 Metres, WINNING TOGETHER became unbalanced when racing tight inside BRIGHT KID.

Then approaching the 1000 Metres, WINNING TOGETHER was crowded for room inside BRIGHT KID which was then directed out to relieve the tightening to WINNING TOGETHER.

Making the turn after the 900 Metres, MIGHTY GIANT and CALIFORNIA RAD bumped.

Approaching the 400 Metres, INCANTO PREPARED was shifted out away from the heels of IRON KING which got its head on the side and shifted out.

IRON KING raced ungenerously under pressure in the Straight and after passing the 100 Metres shifted out towards BREEZE OF SPRING which required its rider to stop riding and straighten the horse.

Throughout the race, CALIFORNIA RAD travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, S de Sousa reported that BRIGHT KID never travelled comfortably during the race and he had to ride the horse along at various times in the early and middle stages to maintain its position.

He said he placed BRIGHT KID under pressure prior to the Home Turn, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and was disappointing.

A veterinary inspection of BRIGHT KID immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned regarding his riding of SPEEDY WALLY, particularly over the concluding stages, H N Wong stated that prior to the Home Turn he rode his mount along in an endeavour to improve his position.

He said he continued to ride the horse along in the early part of the Straight including using the whip on the horse.

He said SPEEDY WALLY did not respond to his riding, however, he continued to ride the horse along hands and heels and the horse did not improve its position.

He added as SPEEDY WALLY was not finishing off the race, he did not persist in riding it out over the concluding stages.

H N Wong was reprimanded and advised that his riding of the horse over the final 150 Metres had come under notice and he must ensure that he rides his mounts out wherever appropriate circumstances permit so as not to leave his riding of horses open to query.

A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA RAD and GALA NIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

MIGHTY GIANT and FANTASTIC SHOW were sent for sampling.
