Recap by phillip woo

Raging favourite Pegasus Glory advanced nicely to grab victory passing the 100m following a prominent run. He backed up a good debut effort for a win here and was suited by the rise in distance but the race had little depth. Gintoki just wore down Whiskey Neat for second after being hustled to hold the rail spot up with the leaders. It was his best run to date but he did show progress from the training grounds. Whiskey Neat grudgingly gave way after working hard to lead one off with pressure coming from both sides of him. He was sharper for a run on opening day. Newcomer Run Run Good came with a nice run from the rear of the field at the head of the straight to just snatch fourth from another newcomer Marvelous Fans. Marvelous Fans came up one-paced over the final 50m after getting going in the straight run from behind midfield. It was a positive debut effort. Hurricane Kunde made ground late without menacing from near last.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (65) - CHENGDU HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

At declaration time, C Y Ho was declared as the rider of both WHISKEY NEAT and FRESH POWER.

It was established that C Y Ho had a firm commitment to ride WHISKEY NEAT.

As such, the Stewards permitted C Schofield to be substituted as the rider of FRESH POWER.

For this declaration error, C Y Ho was fined $2,000.

MARVELOUS FANS began only fairly.

FRESH POWER shifted in at the start and inconvenienced PEGASUS GLORY.

HURRICANE KUNDE was crowded for room on jumping between WHISKEY NEAT which itself shifted out and bumped SPRINT FORWARD and RUN RUN GOOD which got its head on the side and shifted out.

After this, HURRICANE KUNDE was shifted across behind runners to obtain a position closer to the rail.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, RUN RUN GOOD was slow to muster speed and after the 1100 Metres was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

SPRINT FORWARD travelled wide and without cover until approaching the 500 Metres.

J Moreira, the rider of 5th placegetter, MARVELOUS FANS, was found guilty of a charge of having failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards [Rule 100(2)] in that he reduced the vigour with which he was riding the horse when riding it out hands and heels over the concluding stages.

In the circumstances of this matter and having in mind the margin between the 4th and 5th placegetters, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for J Moreira's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday, 7 October 2020 and to expire on Monday, 12 October 2020 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that an endoscopic examination conducted on GINTOKI showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, GINTOKI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of SPRINT FORWARD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

PEGASUS GLORY and GINTOKI were sent for sampling.
