Recap by phillip woo

Punted late Skyey Supreme kept on gamely for a comfortable win in a slick time after straightening two lengths on top. He kicked nicely off a light weight to give local rider Jack Wong Ho-nam his first victory this season. Smart Folks stayed on well to just take second after chasing the leader on the fence. It was his best run to date with a return to the dirt and step up in distance. Well-backed Unite Spirit finished very well after straightening four deep from towards the rear to nearly grab second. It was a solid effort up in grade off a light weight following a win. Firming favourite Gameplayer Times closed off reasonably well after a one-off run behind midfield to just miss a placing. He's not far off a winning performance. So We Joy made up good ground late to nearly fill the frame after biding his time third last from a tricky gate. It wasn't a bad effort carrying more weight following a last-start win and he might also be seeking a longer trip. Clear Choice came up one-paced over the final 150m after settling effectively one-out, one-back. He's better ridden for luck. Elite Patch weakened badly to finish last rounding the final bend after going forward three-deep to track the leader 900m out. He had an excuse.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (659) - CHAMOMILE HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

LOYAL BABY lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effect and lost ground.

SMART FOLKS shifted out at the start, resulting in CLEAR CHOICE being momentarily crowded for room inside SKYEY SUPREME.

From wide barriers, UNITE SPIRIT and PARTY EVERYDAY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

In the early stages, SO WE JOY was steadied to obtain cover.

Passing the 1400 Metres, GAMEPLAYER TIMES was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TURIN REDSTAR.

GAMEPLAYER TIMES then stumbled near the 1350 Metres and shifted out, resulting in PING HAI TREASURE being crowded for room inside ELITE PATCH.

PARTY EVERYDAY, which was following PING HAI TREASURE, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence when travelling keenly.

PARTY EVERYDAY then continued to travel keenly and after the 1200 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.

After the 800 Metres, PING HAI TREASURE was left racing wide and without cover.

Making the turn near the 700 Metres, LOYAL BABY lost ground after becoming unbalanced of its own accord.

Shortly after entering the Straight, SO WE JOY was momentarily hampered when improving into tight running between PING HAI TREASURE and GAMEPLAYER TIMES which shifted in marginally.

Approaching the 100 Metres, PING HAI TREASURE was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between TURIN REDSTAR and SO WE JOY which was taken in by GAMEPLAYER TIMES (J Moreira).

J Moreira was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

After the race, Apprentice C L Chau (ELITE PATCH) stated that from a wide barrier he was instructed to gradually allow his mount to improve around runners in the early and middle stages with a view to taking up a forward position if possible.

He said when racing wide ELITE PATCH became unbalanced after the 1400 Metres when bumped on the hindquarters by PING HAI TREASURE.

He said when this happened, ELITE PATCH commenced to travel keenly.

He said he continued to allow his mount to improve its position to race outside the lead after the 800 Metres.

He added ELITE PATCH then travelled comfortably for a short distance before coming under pressure after the 600 Metres.

He said he rode ELITE PATCH along rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, however, the horse gave ground in the Straight and was disappointing.

A veterinary inspection of ELITE PATCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Also after the race, K Teetan explained that after being unable to obtain cover in the early stages when BRIGHT KID improved its position inside PARTY EVERYDAY, his mount travelled too keenly in the early and middle stages and, in his opinion, because of this was not able to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of PARTY EVERYDAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of BRIGHT KID immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of PING HAI TREASURE immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, PING HAI TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
