Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Sky Treasure kept up a strong gallop to win rather cosily after rolling to the lead along the fence 1,000m out. He took full advantage of a light weight up in grade after returning to form with a hard-fought success on the dirt. Falcon Turbo produced a gutsy performance to get into the quinella spot 150m out following a wide run without cover fore of midfield. He's a winner waiting to happen at this level. Island Shine got going late to overhaul Jazz Steed for third after a one-off run behind midfield. He's building towards a win at this level. Jazz Steed just held his ground after settling one-out, one-back. It was another honest performance but he has trouble winning. Punted late, Regent Glory gradually faded after working three deep to eventually punch the breeze outside the leader. He's gone all right in both starts but will need more time and education. Blazing Beat came up one-paced in the run to the wire after a prominent run along the fence. It wasn't a bad effort following a stable change. Gladsome Ryder ran on without menacing from the rear of the field. It was an improved effort on his past few runs but will require more fine tuning.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (768) - MIDDLE GAP HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie applied to SCHOLAR was replaced.

SCHOLAR was crowded for room on jumping between BLAZING BEAT and SKY TREASURE, both of which shifted ground.

JAZZ STEED shifted out at the start and inconvenienced REGENT GLORY which was taken out onto the hindquarters of GLADSOME RYDER, resulting in GLADSOME RYDER being crowded for room inside ISLAND SHINE.

VIVA HUNTER shifted out at the start and bumped MEHBOOB.

From the outside barriers, MEHBOOB and AMAZEMENT were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 1150 Metres, GLADSOME RYDER was inconvenienced when steadied away from the heels of ISLAND SHINE which shifted in.

Near the 1050 Metres, SCHOLAR was checked and lost ground when crowded for room inside SKY TREASURE (K Teetan) which, when racing tight inside JAZZ STEED (Apprentice K H Chan), then got its head on the side and lay in away from that horse when being ridden along.

Apprentice Chan was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he had shifted in marginally inside the line of four wide, but that SKY TREASURE laying in away from JAZZ STEED had contributed significantly to this incident.

Accordingly, Apprentice Chan was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances.

K Teetan was also advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.

When SCHOLAR lost ground, TOP MILITARY, which was following, was hampered in consequence.

SCHOLAR then got its head on the side and lay out making the turn after the 1000 Metres.

When being steadied in an endeavour to obtain cover approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, REGENT GLORY got its head up on a number of occasions when travelling keenly.

Passing the 800 Metres, ISLAND SHINE momentarily raced tight inside the heels of FALCON TURBO.

After the 700 Metres, MEHBOOB was left racing wide and without cover.

At the 600 Metres, JAZZ STEED got its head on the side and lay in away from the heels of REGENT GLORY, resulting in BLAZING BEAT being crowded for room and bumping the running rail which resulted in BLAZING BEAT becoming unbalanced.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, SCHOLAR got its head on the side and lay out, resulting in ISLAND SHINE being crowded for room inside MEHBOOB.

AMAZEMENT, which was following ISLAND SHINE, shifted out away from the heels of that horse and in doing so bumped VIVA HUNTER which was taken wider.

At the entrance to the Straight, FALCON TURBO raced tight outside JAZZ STEED which got its head on the side and lay out.

Passing the 300 Metres, BLAZING BEAT raced tight inside REGENT GLORY which shifted in.

For the majority of the race, FALCON TURBO travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of MEHBOOB immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of TOP MILITARY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.

SKY TREASURE and FALCON TURBO were sent for sampling.
