Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed Super Kin quickened nicely from behind midfield to get up 60m out for a maiden win. He had been costly over the years but had produced an odd good run. Diamond Star finished nicely down the outside from towards the rear to make it close on the wire. He's given a good sight now to place second in two of three starts over this trip. Light My Day kept on reasonably well for a placing after pressing forward three deep to reclaim the lead 900m out from a tricky gate. He was able to back-up a win in September with a good performance here. Noble Man battled on to fill the frame after a one-off run better than midfield. It was one of his better efforts in a while with a step up to a mile. Class dropper Alee King Prawn was yielding ground 150m out after finding the front early on from a middle draw carrying top weight. He might be able to find his mark shortly in this grade. Favourite Brave Power stayed on without menacing after making his run closer than normal ahead of midfield on the fence. The tactics change and step up to a mile backfired. Sparkling Star made some ground without threatening after a wide run behind midfield. He had an excuse.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (149) - L'OREAL PARIS HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1600Meters

BRAVE POWER began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of INCREDIBLE.

GALLANT CAVALIER shifted out at the start, resulting in TELECOM ELITE being crowded for room inside BIG BANG BONG.

REGENCY GEM, which began only fairly, was momentarily steadied away from the heels of LIGHT MY DAY on jumping which shifted out abruptly.

LIGHT MY DAY continued to shift out and brushed WIN TECH.

After the 1300 Metres, HAPPY WIN WIN, when racing very wide, was steadied to obtain cover behind BRAVE POWER.

HAPPY WIN WIN was then left racing wide and without cover approaching the 900 Metres and in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out.

A veterinary inspection of HAPPY WIN WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of HAPPY WIN WIN was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY WIN WIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

At the entrance to the Straight, WIN TECH was momentarily eased away from the heels of DIAMOND STAR which shifted out.

TELECOM ELITE had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 250 Metres and consequently was not able to be properly tested.

M F Poon (BRAVE POWER) dropped his whip approaching the 200 Metres.

After the 200 Metres, both REGENCY GEM and BIG BANG BONG attempted to improve between INCREDIBLE and ALEE KING PRAWN where there was insufficient room for two horses.

This resulted in BIG BANG BONG being held up when disappointed for running between REGENCY GEM and ALEE KING PRAWN and being shifted to the outside of ALEE KING PRAWN passing the 100 Metres to obtain clear running.

After the race, K Teetan expressed concern regarding the action of WIN TECH.

A veterinary inspection of WIN TECH immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, WIN TECH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of SUPER KIN as compared, in particular, with its most recent start, Mr C Fownes, trainer of SUPER KING, stated that he was of the opinion that SUPER KIN was not able to finish off its most recent start because of the circumstances of that race.

He said whilst SUPER KIN had cover, the horse was never able to travel comfortably in a three wide position and because of this wanted to lay out over the latter stages.

He said SUPER KIN had overall been disappointing, however, he was of the opinion that its barrier trial since its last run was satisfactory and with SUPER KIN being returned to Sha Tin over 1600 Metres, he anticipated that the horse may be able to finish off the race better than it had been.

A veterinary inspection of GALLANT CAVALIER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.

BRAVE POWER, SUPER KIN and DIAMOND STAR were sent for sampling.
