Race Five: (294) - SHING MUN RIVER CHANNEL HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters
SHINY ONE began only fairly and then was crowded for room between ALL JOYFUL and SOLAR POWER which got its head on the side and shifted out.
BLOTTING PAPER shifted out at the start and bumped SUNNY DELIGHT.
SUNNY DELIGHT was then steadied to obtain cover.
FASTER was crowded for room on jumping between DRAGON COMMANDER and SUPER WIN DRAGON, both of which shifted ground.
After this, DRAGON COMMANDER, FASTER and SUPER WIN DRAGON were all shifted across behind runners.
From the outside barriers, SUN OF MAKFI and CHIRON were also steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, DRAGON BABY shifted in and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of RUN THE TABLE.
DRAGON BABY was then shifted out away from the heels of that horse.
At the same point, DRAGON COMMANDER became unbalanced when being shifted out away from the heels of SUNNY DELIGHT which made the turn awkwardly.
After the 1300 Metres, DRAGON COMMANDER was left racing wide and without cover.
Making the turn near the 700 Metres, SUNNY DELIGHT and DRAGON COMMANDER bumped.
SUNNY DELIGHT and DRAGON COMMANDER then raced tight passing the 600 Metres.
Rounding the Home Turn, DRAGON COMMANDER was hampered when having to be checked out away from the heels of SUNNY DELIGHT (C L Chau) which, when commencing to endeavour to shift to the outside of DRAGON BABY, shifted further as DRAGON BABY shifted out.
C L Chau was severely reprimanded and told that whilst there was some influence in this incident from DRAGON BABY, nonetheless he must ensure that he exercises due care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 300 Metres, SUNNY DELIGHT was shifted out away from the heels of DRAGON BABY which at this time shifted out after being brushed by JADE THEATRE.
JADE THEATRE then shifted out and bumped DRAGON BABY, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced and DRAGON BABY shifting out and inconveniencing SUNNY DELIGHT.
B Shinn (ALL JOYFUL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 250 Metres he directed his mount out when not clear of RUN THE TABLE, resulting in that horse being crowded for room and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled which in turn was taken out onto CHIRON which was also crowded for room.
B Shinn was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 6 February 2022 and to expire on Thursday, 10 February 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
In addition, Jockey Shinn was fined $45,000.
The performances of SHINY ONE, FASTER and DRAGON COMMANDER, all of which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, SHINY ONE, FASTER and DRAGON COMMANDER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, K H Chan (SOLAR POWER) stated that he had to ride his mount along for some distance in the early stages to clear runners to his inside which he was able to do after passing the winning post on the first occasion.
He said the tempo of the race in the early stages was faster than hoped as SOLAR POWER, after initially having to be ridden along, travelled too keenly in the lead.
He said he attempted to steady the tempo in the middle stages, however, SOLAR POWER travelled too keenly and, in his opinion, for this the reason the horse was then not able to finish the race off strongly over the latter stages.
He added that at its last start when successful over the course and distance, SOLAR POWER was able to lead at a slower tempo and with an uncontested lead which allowed the horse to then finish off the race.
A veterinary inspection of SOLAR POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SUPER WIN DRAGON, ALL JOYFUL and WINMORE STAR were sent for sampling.

All Joyful was tucked away on the fence in midfield but quickened nicely to take control 100m out after switching into the open near the 200m. He had found it harder in his past two after opening the campaign with two wins on the turf but appears from this effort to have points in hand on this surface. Winmore Star did everything right but get the win after working to the lead 250m out following a prominent run one off the fence. He's naturally coming to hand in his four starts and appreciated a move to the dirt here. Blotting Paper kept on well for a placing after finding a spot on the back of the leader Solar Power. It was a return to form on his past couple of starts. Favourite Super Win Dragon closed well to fill the frame after settling fifth last from a wide draw. It was another honest effort following a downgrade and he can break through at any moment. Sun Of Makfi rallied late to just miss the frame after a patient ride from gate 13. It wasn't a bad first run on the dirt but he's itching for a downgrade. Chiron was getting going from towards the rear before having his momentum checked 200m out by the eventual winner. It was a better run over a longer trip. Jade Theatre didn't get the trip. Hustled to lead, Solar Power was gone 200m out. He went too hard.
