Recap by phillip woo

Punted late, More Than Enough held on for the win after quickly finding the front from gate six in clearly his best run from six starts this term. He stole the race after a perfectly rated run under Karis Teetan. Favourite Bulletproof came from near last to make it close on the wire after a sluggish start. He's a winner waiting to happen after filling the frame in four straight runs. Nearly Fine came from last to grab a placing close to home. He'll be winning shortly if he remains in the grade. Go For Tea kept on well to finish just out of the placings after a pace-stalking run. It was an improved effort third-up with a step up in distance and switch to the Valley. Dr Winning came up flat with his move 100m out after a one-off trip in midfield. He hasn't been able to take his game to new heights after a win. Laputa had his chance upon straightening after a rails run in midfield but only plodded over the last 150m. He might require a downgrade. Super Red Dragon made some ground without ever looking a threat after a one-off run behind midfield. He's struggled to turn the corner in his five starts this term after giving his all a campaign earlier to post two wins and four placings.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (370) - LYTTELTON HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

SUPER RED DRAGON was slow to begin.

LAPUTA shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of VITRALITE, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

From wide barriers, BULLETPROOF and NEARLY FINE were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, LAPUTA was shifted in away from the heels of VITRALITE after being crowded for room inside that horse which initially shifted in, then got its head on the side and shifted in further away from GO FOR TEA.

Passing the 300 Metres, VITRALITE and TOYCOON raced tight.

As TOYCOON was giving ground near the 250 Metres, that horse was steadied away from the heels of LAPUTA (C Y Ho) which shifted out under pressure.

C Y Ho was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

MORE THAN ENOUGH shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

Close to the finishing line, DR WINNING was awkwardly placed behind MORE THAN ENOUGH.

The Stewards questioned V Borges regarding his riding of SUPER RED DRAGON from near the 1100 Metres until passing the 600 Metres.

V Borges stated that it was his intention to shift SUPER RED DRAGON across to the rail after the 1100 Metres to follow LAPUTA.

He said as he did this, he received a call from A Badel, the rider of PASSING FASHION, which was racing to the inside of the heels of SUPER RED DRAGON.

He said he allowed his mount to improve to be racing closer behind DR WINNING passing the 1000 Metres in an attempt to clear PASSING FASHION and race on the rail.

He said on a number of occasions after the 1100 Metres, he continued to receive calls from Jockey Badel to inform him that he was not clear to cross PASSING FASHION.

A Badel subsequently confirmed to the Stewards that he called to V Borges on numerous occasions as PASSING FASHION was having difficulty improving its position inside SUPER RED DRAGON, however, he did not wish to be crossed by that horse so as to maintain as prominent a position as possible.

V Borges was told that after having a number of looks to his inside after the 1100 Metres, he should have satisfied himself that it was not available to him to shift to race on the rail without causing interference to PASSING FASHION, therefore a number of looks that he had to his inside after the 900 Metres were in the circumstances not necessary.

He was reminded that he had previously been spoken to by the Stewards regarding looking around in races and that he must desist in this practice other than when ensuring that safety is not compromised.

A veterinary inspection of TOYCOON and PASSING FASHION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

MORE THAN ENOUGH and BULLETPROOF were sent for sampling.
