Recap by phillip woo

Firming favourite Circuit Stellar never looked back after leading soon after the break from gate two to ring up a third career win and second over this trip from 19 starts. The riding change to Zac Purton worked the oracle. Winning Method just held off the late surge of California Ten for second after a box seat run. He rarely produces a bad run. California Ten came from last in the eight-horse field to just miss second by a bob of the heads. It was another fine effort with a step back to 1,400m after nearly saluting last start over 1,600m. Toronado Phantom ran on to finish next best without threatening the top three settling one from the rear. He went all right carrying a few pounds more over a longer trip following a win. Oriental Smoke was yielding ground 100m out after a pace-stalking run. He has hit his mark after winning three earlier times this season. Super Win Dragon never came on from towards the rear. He's a dirt horse. Ka Ying Master had his chance if good enough from midfield but failed to get the trip. Bourbonaire finished last after chasing the speed wide without cover.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (409) - BELCHER BAY HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Meters

TORONADO PHANTOM stumbled on jumping, became unbalanced and lost ground.

From a wide barrier, CALIFORNIA TEN was shifted across behind runners in the early stages and over the final 100 Metres was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure.

After the race, K Teetan reported that BOURBONAIRE was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event and with the horse racing first up today was unable to finish the race off as a consequence.

A veterinary inspection of BOURBONAIRE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned, H Bentley (KA YING MASTER) stated that it was his intention to race in a forward position today.

He said he was not asked specifically to lead on KA YING MASTER as the horse was racing over 1400 Metres for the first time and as a result he was given the option to obtain cover to allow KA YING MASTER to run out a strong 1400 Metres.

He said when ORIENTAL SMOKE showed intent to go forward and cross his mount in the early stages, he allowed that runner to shift in in advance of KA YING MASTER at which point his mount raced a little keenly, but after obtaining cover behind ORIENTAL SMOKE near the 1100 Metres, KA YING MASTER travelled comfortably.

He added that in the Straight when placed under pressure KA YING MASTER did not respond to his riding and failed to run out today's distance.

A veterinary inspection of KA YING MASTER immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in its trachea and also found the horse to be a "roarer??which had previously been reported.

After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that WINNING METHOD was lame it its left front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, WINNING METHOD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

CIRCUIT STELLAR and WINNING METHOD were sent for sampling.
