Recap by phillip woo

To Infinity got up in the final stages for an upset win after getting out of a jam near the 200m after travelling third last from an outside draw. It was clearly his best run to date with a step up to 1,650m but he did get a race run to suit the backmarkers. Old-timer Jolly Honour did everything but get the win after hitting the front 200m out from midfield and one off the fence. He's racing well but keeps coming up just short. Faithful Trinity stayed on a distant third after a handy run one off the fence from a wide draw. He was able to back up a placing last start. Glorious Lover came from near last to fill the frame after working into the clear 150m out. It was another honest effort. Punted late, Fiery Flying made headway late near the inside from behind midfield. He went OK following a drop in class. Valhalla had every chance following a perfect trip in the box seat tracking a slow pace. He's in the right grade but should be better suited over a shorter trip. Favourite Ho Ho Junior was already plodding on one paced when impeded near the 50m following a rails run from midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (512) - LYNDHURST HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Meters

JOLLY HONOUR jumped only fairly, shifted out and bumped ONE STEP AHEAD.

On jumping, GLORIOUS LOVER was steadied when crowded between OUR CREED and CIRCUIT SPIRITANTO which shifted in.

From a wide barrier, FIERY FLYING was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

From the outside barrier, FORTUNE WINNER was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 600 Metres, HO HO JUNIOR lay in and brushed the running rail.

FIERY FLYING was held up making the Home Turn and approaching the 300 Metres was shifted to the inside of HO HO JUNIOR to obtain clear running.

Near the 250 Metres, FIERY FLYING was then crowded to the inside of VALHALLA which shifted in slightly when attempting a narrow run to that runner's inside.

On straightening, HO HO JUNIOR, which had been briefly held up, was shifted to the inside of OUR CREED to secure clear running.

HO HO JUNIOR then raced tight to the inside of OUR CREED for some distance thereafter.

Approaching the 50 Metres, HO HO JUNIOR was disappointed for running to the inside of FAITHFUL TRINITY which was inclined to lay in over the final 100 Metres and as a result HO HO JUNIOR could not be ridden out to the finish when it was awkwardly placed behind FAITHFUL TRINITY.

Near the 200 Metres, CIRCUIT SPIRITANTO, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded between HO HO JUNIOR which, after obtaining a run to the inside of OUR CREED, was taken in by that runner slightly and VALHALLA which shifted out.

For a short distance approaching the 200 Metres, TO INFINITY had difficulty obtaining clear running.

In the Straight, FORTUNE WINNER lay in and proved reluctant to shift to the outside of runners to obtain clear running.

Over the concluding stages, FORTUNE WINNER could not be fully tested when it continued to lay in and was awkwardly placed to the outside of ONE STEP AHEAD.

When questioned regarding TO INFINITY settling in a position behind midfield, K C Leung stated that his instructions from a wide barrier were to ride his mount conservatively when stepping up to 1650 Metres and was suited by the strong tempo in the event.

After the race, L Ferraris (OUR CREED) reported that his mount travelled comfortably in the early stages when positioned outside the lead, but commenced to give ground when placed under pressure in the Straight.

He added that as OUR CREED commenced to shift ground whilst it was weakening, he desisted from riding it out when it was not in a competitive position.

A veterinary inspection of OUR CREED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of OUR CREED, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, OUR CREED will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of WIN WIN CHARITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HO HO JUNIOR, TO INFINITY and JOLLY HONOUR were sent for sampling.
