Recap by phillip woo

Favourite El Valiente pinched a break and won geared down after hitting the front 250m out following a wide without cover run for more than half the race from midfield. The win was overdue after placing in three of his past four starts. Travel Glory ran on nicely to grab second after making his run five back on the fence. The dirt nearly worked the oracle after going close to win two runs ago over 1,400m. Gold Comet dashed nicely for third after making his run towards the back outside the eventual runner up. He's building towards a win. Punted late Sure Win Win ran on well to fill the frame after biding his time three from the rear. He is well-rated on a past win over this course and distance. Win Win Charity made headway late after a wide with cover run from behind midfield. It was his best run. Splendid Star ran on steadily without threatening after a rails run from behind midfield. It was a better run following the addition of pacifiers.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (559) - HARLECH HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Meters

COMPULSORY, which brushed a rail prior to entering the track, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and passed suitable to race.

TRAVEL GLORY (H W Lai) jumped awkwardly and was hampered when crowded by RUN RUN GOOD which shifted out.

TRAVEL GLORY was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After the race, H W Lai reported that when his mount jumped awkwardly, this resulted in TRAVEL GLORY settling further back in the field than he had been instructed to ride his mount.

Shortly after the start, CHIRON blundered badly when crowded for room between EUROMISSILE which shifted in slightly and EL VALIENTE, which jumped awkwardly, was taken out by BARON ZEE when that runner shifted out and away from REGENCY GEM.

From a wide barrier, SURE WIN WIN was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

From the outside barrier, WIN WIN CHARITY was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages, then in the early and middle stages over-raced and was left racing wide and without cover from the 800 Metres.

WIN WIN CHARITY lost its right front plate near the 1000 Metres.

EL VALIENTE also lost its left hind plate near the 1000 Metres.

Making the first turn, EUROMISSILE got its head up when being steadied by its rider, M Chadwick.

BELL OF VICTORY raced wide and without cover until the 1000 Metres.

Near the 300 Metres, SPLENDID STAR (V Borges) was directed to the outside of EUROMISSILE when positioned close to that runner's heels, resulting in SPLENDID STAR having to be checked to avoid the heels of EUROMISSILE, shifting out abruptly and becoming unbalanced.

V Borges was advised to exercise more care.

For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, CHIRON experienced difficulty obtaining clear running.

Near the 150 Metres, REGENCY GEM improved to the inside of SPLENDID STAR and then was steadied when SPLENDID STAR shifted in.

V Borges was again advised to exercise more care.

REGENCY GEM then had some difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance thereafter.

Approaching the 100 Metres, SPLENDID STAR was directed to the outside of WIN WIN CHARITY to continue into clear running.

After the race, K C Leung (CHIRON) reported that after blundering badly at the start, CHIRON settled further back in the field than anticipated and then found it difficult to make up ground in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of CHIRON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Also after the race, K Teetan (COMPULSORY) stated that his mount failed to run out the 1650 Metres of today's event.

A veterinary inspection of COMPULSORY immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.

Following the race, M F Poon (REGENCY GEM) stated that from an inside barrier and with the horse stepping back up in distance today, he was able to secure a more forward position.

He said REGENCY GEM seemed reluctant to race amongst horses when placed under pressure in the Straight although it did experience some crowding near the 150 Metres.

A veterinary inspection of REGENCY GEM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

EL VALIENTE and TRAVEL GLORY were sent for sampling.
