Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed to jump favourite Maximize Heart quickened nicely to take control near the 100m after angling into the open 350m out following a patient ride towards the rear for a third career win over this trip. He was stepping out off a career low in the ratings. Beauty Nova was closing with every stride after making his run one from the rear. He was able to build on a rallying fourth last start. Smart Folks led and grudgingly gave way after getting headed for the lead 300m out. He continues to hold his form reasonably well after a win in January. Young Horizon just failed to get up for a placing from midfield. He has run well to fill the frame in his past three of five following a downgrade. Master Of Luck hit the line well to finish next best after getting posted wide travelling three from the rear from gate 14. It was a good effort down in grade after throat surgery. Specked late Sure Winner peaked on his run 100m out after moving to the lead 300m out following a pace-stalking run. It was a better run with the visors off. Luck Star only plodded when asked for an effort following a handy run on the fence despite a downgrade.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (580) - CARING COMMUNITY 1400M HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1400Meters

LUCK STAR jumped only fairly.

VIVA A LA jumped only fairly and then bumped with GIVE WAY PLEASE when taken in by SMART FOLKS.

MAXIMIZE HEART was crowded on jumping between BEAUTY NOVA and YOUNG HORIZON which jumped awkwardly and shifted out.

In this incident, MAXIMIZE HEART bumped BEAUTY NOVA, resulting in BEAUTY NOVA shifting out and bumping with SMART BEAUTY.

SMART BEAUTY was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

ENCORE jumped only fairly and was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

From the outside barrier, MASTER OF LUCK was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 800 Metres, TSUEN WAN GLORY shifted out when placed close to the heels of SURE WINNER and in doing so brushed VUKAN, taking that runner wider.

For some distance near the 800 Metres, BEAUTY NOVA and SMART BEAUTY bumped when racing tight to the inside of MASTER OF LUCK.

In the middle stages, VIVA A LA raced keenly when obtaining a position behind TSUEN WAN GLORY.

Near the 350 Metres, YOUNG HORIZON was hampered when taken out by MAXIMIZE HEART which shifted to the outside of LUCK STAR to obtain clear running.

Near the 300 Metres, V Borges (ALL IS READY) dropped his whip.

VUKAN was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

When questioned, K Teetan (GIVE WAY PLEASE) reported that his mount failed to show any early pace despite being ridden along and consequently settled back in the field in the early stages.

He said in the early stages when he was concerned as to why his mount did not show more pace, he continued to place some pressure on it to hold its rearward position and after the 900 Metres when satisfied there was nothing amiss, he commenced to ride GIVE WAY PLEASE forward.

He added that in doing so he dropped his whip at this point and then GIVE WAY PLEASE worked to the line in a satisfactory manner when ridden out strong hands and heels.

A veterinary inspection of GIVE WAY PLEASE immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer??which had previously been reported.

The performance of GIVE WAY PLEASE was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, GIVE WAY PLEASE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

As this was the third occasion this season that K Teetan had been reported to have dropped his whip during a race, he was placed on notice that should he offend again in the near future, further action may be taken.

After the race, L Ferraris (TSUEN WAN GLORY) reported that when he was concerned there was something amiss with his mount near the 500 Metres, he elected to ease it down from the event.

A veterinary inspection of TSUEN WAN GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of TSUEN WAN GLORY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, TSUEN WAN GLORY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Also after the race, Z Purton (LUCK STAR) reported that, in his opinion, his mount would be better suited by being dropped back in distance where it can settle on a more genuine pace.

A veterinary inspection of LUCK STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

MAXIMIZE HEART and BEAUTY NOVA were sent for sampling.
