Recap by phillip woo

Viva Popcorn enjoyed a dream run on the back of a slow tempo, hit the front 100m out and kept on gamely for his second win this season. Royal Pride weaved a run from behind midfield to edge Beauty Mission for second. He ran a cracker despite 147 days off following a win and a second in his previous two starts. Beauty Mission ran on nicely from midfield to just miss the quinella spot. He was able to back up his improved laststart effort when he stepped up to Happy Valley's 1,650m. Happy Angel was on his tippy toes 100m out after going forward four wide to claim the lead at the half-way mark. The early workload took its toll, but it was yet another honest run without winning. Amazing Boy ran on steadily to finish next best after his one-off-the-fence run behind midfield. Durham Star left things too late after biding his time two from the rear. He is not genuine. Specked late, Kyrus Unicorn made some ground from towards the rear without ever threatening. It was a typical performance. One Heart One failed to lift when push came to shove after his one-out, one-back run. He continues to be costly to follow.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (628) - LANCASHIRE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

READY PLAYER ONE was withdrawn on 2.5.23 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ROYAL PRIDE (H Bowman).

Before being allowed to race again, READY PLAYER ONE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Trainer D J Whyte was fined the sum of $10,000 in that as the person responsible for the work of stable staff allocated to him, BEAU GOSSE underwent shockwave treatment on Thursday, 27 April 2023 when that horse held an entry for this race.

This treatment resulted in BEAU GOSSE being ineligible to race due to it having occurred within the applicable clear day restrictions.

VIVA POPCORN shifted out at the start and bumped HAPPY HUNK.

ONE HEART ONE shifted out at the start, resulting in DURHAM STAR being crowded out onto AMAZING BOY which shifted in after being bumped by KYRUS UNICORN.

BAYVIEW STAR jumped awkwardly.

When caught wide in the early stages, BAYVIEW STAR was steadied passing the 1400 Metres to obtain cover.

BEAUTY MISSION raced tight to the inside of GREAT BRILLIANT shortly after the start.

Approaching the 1400 Metres, GREAT BRILLIANT, which was inclined to race keenly, was steadied to avoid the heels of ONE HEART ONE when that runner was being steadied in an attempt to obtain cover.

Passing the 1400 Metres, ONE HEART ONE was then hampered when bumped by HAPPY ANGEL which shifted in.

For some distance near the 250 Metres, ROYAL PRIDE was held up behind VIVA POPCORN.

GREAT BRILLIANT was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

The performance of BAYVIEW STAR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, BAYVIEW STAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of BAYVIEW STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned regarding his riding of AMAZING BOY making the Home Turn, S De Sousa stated that after following BEAUTY MISSION, his mount was not travelling strongly and for this reason he was reluctant to shift out and follow ONE HEART ONE.

He said he had expected BEAUTY MISSION to improve into the race better than what it did and as a result he became held up behind BEAUTY MISSION for some distance until near the 250 Metres where he was able to secure clear running.

A veterinary inspection of GREAT BRILLIANT and ONE HEART ONE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

ONE HEART ONE, VIVA POPCORN and ROYAL PRIDE were sent for sampling.
