Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed I Give led from gate 12 and kept up a strong gallop when asked for more to make it three wins on the trot to start the new campaign. Ka Ying Warrior came to win the race after travelling one off the leader but was again no match for I Give in consecutive runs. He's lightly raced and it's only a matter of time before he salutes. Kaholo Angel ran on nicely from midfield to nearly grab second. He's run well to place in both starts after getting gelded during the summer recess. Prince Chiswick was on his tippy toes late after a speed-tracking run. It was a better effort second-up. Rattan World came from last at the head of the straight along the inside to finish next best after a tardy start. He did show flashes of ability in five starts last term. Wonderful Unicorn stayed on without threatening after a wide trip from behind midfield. He had an excuse in his first run down in Class Four. Specked late Commanding Missile made headway without ever looking a threat from near last at the top of the straight following a slow start. He had an excuse.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (84) - SUN CHUI HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 WONDERFUL UNICORN (G362) L Ferraris Was reported by the Veterinary Surgeon to have bled from both nostrils after the race.

Before being allowed to race again, WONDERFUL UNICORN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 2 KAHOLO ANGEL (H216) H Bowman When questioned regarding his riding out over the concluding stages, H Bowman stated that KAHOLO ANGEL lay in when placed under pressure in the Home Straight and near the 100 Metres he was required to put more pressure on his left rein when the horse continued to lay in.

He added over the concluding stages, whilst he continued to ride KAHOLO ANGEL out to the finish, he was unable to apply his full and usual vigour as his focus was on preventing KAHOLO ANGEL, which was commencing to tire, from shifting in further and causing interference.

After viewing the patrol films, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered by Jockey Bowman.

Horse No 3 ALL ARE MINE (H293) Y L Chung After the 800 Metres was obliged to race wide and without cover.

Horse No 4 BLISSFUL STAR (E168) K C Leung After the 800 Metres was obliged to race wide and without cover.

Horse No 5 KA YING WARRIOR (H028) Z Purton Was sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 BIG TWO (E310) K Teetan Jumped awkwardly.

Horse No 13 RATTAN WORLD (G384) K De Melo Was slow to begin.

As a result, K De Melo had some difficulty in riding his mount out through that section of the race.

Horse No 14 SMART LEADER (B456) H Bentley The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if SMART LEADER had been afforded a fair start.

After viewing the patrol films and taking evidence from the Starter, Mr A Speechley, the Stewards found that as the start was effected SMART LEADER reared and jumped awkwardly, resulting in its rider, H Bentley, being dislodged.

As the Stewards were satisfied that such occurrence happened simultaneously to the start being effected, SMART LEADER was declared a runner.

Before being allowed to race again, SMART LEADER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, H Bentley was examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements.
