Recap by phillip woo

Plunged late, Super Contented travelled behind midfield on the fence and got the gaps at the right time to pip favourite Regency Happy Star and shed his maiden tag on his ninth appearance. He relished his switch to Happy Valley's 1,650m. Regency Happy Star surged to the lead 150m out following his midfield rail run but found one too good. He is a winner waiting to happen with placings in his past three races. Medic Elite ran on nicely to finish a close third after Jerry Chau Chun-lok rode him patiently third last from barrier nine. He is honest as the day is long. Millennium Falcon held on to fourth in a photo after his dream run in the box seat. He is not far off a bottom. Cordyceps One kept plugging away to just miss the frame. He has run OK in two of his three starts this season but heavy weights are anchoring him. Get The Monies made some ground down the outside to finish the next best after his trip behind midfield one off the fence. It was a shade better effort on his second consecutive Happy Valley 1,650m run in Class Five. Brother Pearl ran on without threatening the winner after settling second last from the outside gate.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two : (243) - SAU MAU PING HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 CORDYCEPS ONE (E107) Z Purton Jumped awkwardly.

Z Purton was interviewed regarding his riding out of CORDYCEPS ONE over the final 200 Metres.

He said after riding his mount along after the 200 Metres, he felt that CORDYCEPS ONE was not responding to his forehand whip use and as a result he then changed to a backhand grip inside the 100 Metres whereby he then continued to ride his mount out to the finish of the race.

Whilst the Stewards accepted that near the 100 Metres he had changed the manner in which he held his whip, Z Purton was advised, wherever possible, he must ensure that he fully rides his mounts out approaching the end of the race.

Horse No 2 CHARMANDER (G437) C Y Ho Jumped only fairly.

After the race, C Y Ho reported that from a wide barrier he settled back in the field and from that position, with the pace being run outside of standard through the early and middle stages, CHARMANDER found it difficult to make up ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 GET THE MONIES (G168) L Ferraris Near the 1100 Metres was steadied away from VIVA A LA.

Horse No 4 AMAZING TRAVIS (H132) L Hewitson A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 SUPER CONTENTED (H251) K De Melo Checked when crowded shortly after the start.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 REGENCY HAPPY STAR (H248) Y L Chung Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 MILLENNIUM FALCON (D281) K Teetan Ran out at the start despite the efforts of its rider, made contact with VIVA A LA and became unbalanced.

In the early stages raced keenly and for some distance leaving the 1200 Metres got its head up.

Horse No 8 BROTHER PEARL (H030) B Avdulla From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 9 MEDIC ELITE (G129) C L Chau Jumped only fairly.

After the race, C L Chau reported that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride the horse conservatively in the early stages as they had anticipated the race to be run at a good early tempo.

Trainer P C Ng confirmed the instructions issued.

Horse No 10 VIVA A LA (G282) A Badel Badly crowded on jumping.

After the race, A Badel reported that his mount over-raced in the early stages.

He said near the 1100 Metres VIVA A LA shifted to a three wide position and was allowed to stride forward where it obtained a position outside the lead near the 700 Metres and as a result was left without a finishing effort.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have blood in its mouth.
