Co-favourite Baby Crystal kept on gamely to just defeat Stellar Express after hitting the lead 60m out chasing Cheval Valiant near the stands side from gate 10 for a third win and three seconds from seven runs over the straight 1,000m. Stellar Express made it close on the wire travelling near the speed from a middle gate. He's racing well but has run into Baby Crystal in each of his three local starts. Well-backed late Cheval Valiant gradually faded after easily finding the lead from gate nine. It was a return to form after two faltering performances. Northern Beaches ran on steadily from midfield for fourth. It was another honest effort. Pleasant Endeavor ran on steadily to finish next best after travelling midfield and one from the left from a low draw. He rarely produces a bad run over the straight 1,000m. Flying High made some ground late from behind midfield. He gave them too much of a head start. Trying the straight 1,000m for the first time, Jolly Ruler ran on without threatening from towards the rear.

Horse No 4 STELLAR EXPRESS (J186) Z Purton When questioned, Z Purton stated that near the 300 Metres his mount blundered.

He said after being positioned behind and to the outside of BABY CRYSTAL near the 200 Metres, he elected to shift to that runner's inside to ensure that his mount obtained clear running.

He added his decision to shift in was influenced by the fact that he was concerned had he improved to the outside of BABY CRYSTAL, he may have been held up for clear running behind CHEVAL VALIANT which had set a strong pace in the lead and may have given ground.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 TELECOM POWER (J332) M F Poon Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Horse No 8 JOLLY RULER (E346) A Atzeni On jumping was steadied when crowded between SUPERSONIC which shifted out after being bumped by NORTHERN BEACHES and CHEVAL VALIANT which shifted in abruptly when being corrected by its rider.

Near the 200 Metres was disappointed for clear running between FLYING HIGH and SUPERSONIC and then shifted to the inside of FLYING HIGH to obtain a clear run.
