Recap by phillip woo

After shifting into the clear 300m out while travelling five back and one off the fence, Mr Cool rallied nicely to get up 50m out for a maiden win at his second start. The wellbacked Etalon Or ran on very well for second after making his run at the rear from gate 12. It was another honest performance. Smashed in betting to jump favourite, Shamus Storm ran on nicely near the inside to fill a placing after making his run two from the rear. He's a winner waiting to happen after placing in two of three starts. Raging Rapids had his chance but had to settle for fourth after a rails run from midfield. He was able to go one better after running on for fifth in two of his first three 1,200m runs. Roman Crown succumbed late after claiming the lead 150m out from better than midfield on the fence. It was a better effort on his return to turf. Mighty Steed produced only a grinding effort after a one-off trip from midfield. Punted late, Carryon Smiling made a mild bid after making his run five back on the fence. He couldn't back up a last start win.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight : (569) - MORNINGSIDE ALUMNI HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 MIGHTY STEED (J384) Y L Chung Near the 400 Metres was bumped by RAGING RAPIDS which shifted out to improve.

Horse No 2 KA YING SUPERB (J091) M F Poon After the event, M F Poon stated that he was obliged to make use of his mount to hold the lead but was disadvantaged by being pressured by FUN TOGETHER.

He added that as a consequence in the Home Straight KA YING SUPERB gave ground.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 FUN TOGETHER (H041) P N Wong Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 ETALON OR (J273) A Badel Bumped at the start.

A Badel was found guilty of a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 200 Metres (see ALWAYS MY FOLKS).

After the event, A Badel stated that from a wide barrier the instructions were to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages.

Mr Y K Lau, Acting Assistant Trainer, confirmed the instructions were to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 AUTUMN VIBES (K150) Z Purton When questioned, Z Purton stated that his mount jumped awkwardly and as a result lost ground and settled at the tail of the field.

He said in the early stages AUTUMN VIBES raced keenly and was steadied away from SHAMUS STORM near the 1000 Metres.

When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, Z Purton stated that after improving to the inside of SHAMUS STORM on entering the Home Straight he commenced to place his mount under pressure, however, when VIEW ALL THINGS commenced to give ground quickly he became held up behind that runner between the 350 Metres and the 250 Metres.

He added after improving to the outside of VIEW ALL THINGS, he was then placed close to the heels of SHAMUS STORM for some distance thereafter.

When questioned regarding his vigour from near the 200 Metres, Z Purton stated that, in his opinion, AUTUMN VIBES was under pressure and laying in and for this reason he did not fully test his mount through this section of the race as he was of the opinion the horse was not responding to his efforts.

Trainer J Richards stated that if AUTUMN VIBES commenced well the option was to take up a more forward position but accepted that on jumping AUTUMN VIBES commenced awkwardly and settled back.

He added whilst acknowledging AUTUMN VIBES had been held up in the early part of the Home Straight he felt there was an opportunity for Jockey Purton to place more pressure on his mount from near the 200 Metres.

After considering his explanation the Stewards advised Jockey Purton that, in their opinion, he should have ridden his mount with more vigour after the 200 Metres to fully demonstrate that the horse was unable to respond further to his riding and in such circumstances to ride his mounts in such a manner to leave no room for query.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of AUTUMN VIBES was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.

Before being allowed to race again, AUTUMN VIBES will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 7 SHAMUS STORM (K031) L Hewitson In the early stages raced keenly and for some distance near the 1000 Metres was steadied away from CARRYON SMILING.

Near the 200 Metres was briefly inconvenienced by FUN TOGETHER when FUN TOGETHER shifted out slightly.

L Hewitson was found guilty of a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 200 Metres (see ALWAYS MY FOLKS).

When questioned, L Hewitson stated that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages to allow the horse to finish off.

Trainer D A Hayes confirmed the instructions issued and said at its last start SHAMUS STORM was not suited by being ridden forward and had barrier trialed well on 14 March 2025 when it was ridden in a conservative manner in the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 CELESTIAL PATCH (K151) A Atzeni In the Home Straight raced greenly and lay in, proving difficult to ride.

Horse No 9 MR COOL (K184) K Teetan Bumped at the start.

Horse No 10 CARRYON SMILING (J392) K De Melo Near the 200 Metres was checked when crowded between ALWAYS MY FOLKS which was taken in by ETALON OR and SHAMUS STORM which shifted out.

Horse No 11 RAGING RAPIDS (J228) H Bowman Bumped at the 400 Metres.

Horse No 12 VIEW ALL THINGS (K101) M L Yeung After the event, M L Yeung stated that from an inside barrier he was able to obtain a more forward position today.

He said, in his opinion, VIEW ALL THINGS would be better suited ridden in a conservative manner in the early stages to allow it to finish the race off.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of VIEW ALL THINGS was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.

Before being allowed to race again, VIEW ALL THINGS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 13 ALWAYS MY FOLKS (J345) B Thompson L Hewitson, rider of SHAMUS STORM, and A Badel, rider of ETALON OR, were found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres they permitted their mounts to shift ground when not clear of ALWAYS MY FOLKS and CARRYON SMILING, contributing to those horses having to be checked.

After considering their pleas and the circumstances of the incident, both Jockeys Hewitson and Badel were severely reprimanded.

Horse No 14 SPORTIC WARRIOR (J385) H T Mo In the middle stages raced keenly and near the 900 Metres shifted out when being steadied away from MIGHTY STEED.
