Racing Incident Report
Race Eight : (618) - ORCHID HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1000Meters
Horse No 1 HORSEPOWER (J431) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 2 YOUTHFUL SPIRITS (J082) L Ferraris After the event L Ferraris stated that his intention was to lead but despite riding his mount along in the early stages it did not show sufficient pace to hold out PARENTS' LOVE.
He said throughout the event YOUTHFUL SPIRITS raced "flat" before making a respiratory noise when placed under pressure in the Home Straight.
Trainer M Newnham stated that having regard to the manner in which YOUTHFUL SPIRITS raced tonight he would now give the horse a freshen-up before its next race start.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea and also found it to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.
The performance of YOUTHFUL SPIRITS was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.
Before being allowed to race again, YOUTHFUL SPIRITS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 3 CELESTIAL COLOURS (H362) H Bowman On straightening shifted out and bumped with CASA OF HONOR.
Near the 100 Metres was eased when crowded between SPORTS LEGEND which shifted out slightly and SEASONS WIT which shifted in after being bumped by HORSEPOWER.
Horse No 5 HEALTHY HEALTHY (H203) K C Leung Making the Home Turn was steadied and shifted to the inside of CELESTIAL COLOURS to continue into clear running.
Horse No 6 VIEW OF THE WORLD (J348) A Hamelin Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 7 CASA OF HONOR (K310) M F Poon On straightening was bumped by CELESTIAL COLOURS which shifted out to improve.
After the event M F Poon reported that his mount lay out making the turns in the middle stages of the event.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 8 SEASONS WIT (H223) L Hewitson Bumped at the start.
Near the 100 Metres became unbalanced when bumped by HORSEPOWER (Z Purton) which shifted in as it was being corrected by its rider.
Z Purton was severely reprimanded and advised he must stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than what he did on this occasion.
However, the Stewards were satisfied that Jockey Purton had made an effort to straighten his mount just prior to it making contact with SEASONS WIT.
The Stewards also took into consideration that his mount hung in when placed under pressure.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 9 SPARKLING FELLOW (K175) B Avdulla Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 10 STAR PERFORMER (K207) K Teetan From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 12 PARENTS' LOVE (H405) Y L Chung Blundered on jumping, shifted in and made contact with SEASONS WIT.

Despite laying in sharply and bumping Seasons Wit near the 100m, Horsepower quickened nicely to win going away 50m out following a patient ride three from the rear. Punted late, Seasons Wit ran on well for second despite getting hampered by the winner following a wide trip without cover from midfield. He's likely near a bottom after producing better efforts in three of his past four starts. Parents' Love kept on gamely for third after spearing straight to the lead from gate nine. It was another solid performance up in grade off a light weight. Healthy Healthy just failed to get up for third after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He's always a chance when sprinting over this course. Fancied late, Celestial Colours ran on steadily for fifth after a rails run from midfield. It was another honest effort. Sports Legend was yielding ground 100m out after tracking the leader from gate seven. He prefers 1,200m. Favourite Youthful Spirits never figured after a box-seat run from gate two. He's at his best when making his own luck in front.
