Racing Incident Report
Race Eight : (826) - BEGONIA HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1800Meters
Horse No 1 NOISY BOY (J536) L Ferraris After the event L Ferraris stated that from a wide barrier he took up a forward position as instructed.
He said the horse, under its top weight of 134 lbs, found it difficult to run on in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 3 BRAVEHEARTS (H389) M Chadwick From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 4 EMBRACES (J276) C L Chau From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 5 FLAMINGO TRILLION (H192) K C Leung After the event K C Leung reported that his mount was pressured in the lead and as a result was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 6 JUMBO LEGEND (G266) H Bowman Jumped awkwardly.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 7 WOODFIRE BRO (G115) M L Yeung Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 9 CAMBRIDGE (K085) Z Purton In the middle stages raced keenly and near the 800 Metres shifted out when being steadied away from WINNING WING.
Approaching the winning post was bumped by EMBRACES when that runner was taken in slightly by JUMBO LEGEND.
Z Purton pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 200 Metres (see PACKING HURRICANE).
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 11 STAR MAC (J053) K Teetan Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 12 PACKING HURRICANE (H137) Y L Chung Z Purton (CAMBRIDGE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of PACKING HURRICANE, resulting in PACKING HURRICANE having to be checked to avoid CAMBRIDGE.
In accordance with previous practices, Z Purton was fined the sum of $120,000 in lieu of a two-day suspension.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his good race riding record.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No C P BRAVE (E306) E C W Wong Withdrawn on 8.7.25 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (left front suspensory ligament injury) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter SHARPEN BRIGHT.
Before being allowed to race again, C P BRAVE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Jumbo Legend was settled in last and after coming widest of all into the straight, he flashed home and nailed Woodfire Bro by a lip for a seventh Valley success from 39 starts and fourth win from 11 starts this season. He's a bit of a Valley freak. Woodfire Bro did everything right but get the win after moving to the lead 100m out following a prominent run on the fence. He was a well-rated runner after starting the season with a win off a rating five points higher. Favourite Cambridge kept on for third after forcing Packing Hurricane to check 200m out following a wide with cover trip from behind midfield. He's run well in three straight Valley 1,800m runs. Embraces ran on nicely for fourth after settling near last from the widest draw. It was a good effort at his first run beyond the mile trip. Punted late Bravehearts made ground late to finish next best after making his run second last from gate 10. He requires a longer trip. Firming to start a clear second pick, Winning Wing just held his ground after a one-off trip from midfield. He's better suited at Sha Tin. Flamingo Trillion tamely faded after dictating the pace from gate four.
