Post-time favourite Lo Rider travelled prominently on the fence and took control near the 100m for a first win at his eighth local start and first at the Valley. He's another from the solid crop of four-year-olds last season and can head higher. Encountered charged home late for second after making his run five back and one off the fence. It was a good run for his new trainer, but he is a well-rated runner. Early favourite Soleil Fighter kept on gamely for third after going for home on top following a speed-tracking run outside the strong pace of Voyage Samurai from gate 10. He loves the Valley track. Steps Ahead ran on nicely for fourth with two wider out after a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was another honest effort. Jumbo Legend made inroads late near the outside for fifth after biding his time two from the rear. It was another positive showing after a last-start win over 1,800m. Californiatotality made some ground without threatening after turning the final bend one off planted midfield. Sensationally-backed Keefy just held his ground when asked for an effort travelling better than midfield on the fence.

Horse No 4 ENCOUNTERED (G236) K Teetan Shifted out at the start and was bumped.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 LA CITY BLANCHE (G371) Y L Chung From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 LO RIDER (K161) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 BRAVEHEARTS (H389) M F Poon Jumped only fairly and then was crowded between VOYAGE SAMURAI and STEPS AHEAD which shifted in.

Near the 100 Metres was steadied when crowded between KEEFY and CALIFORNIATOTALITY, both of which shifted ground.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 WOODFIRE BRO (G115) M L Yeung When questioned M L Yeung stated that his mount did not show usual pace in the early stages and he was obliged to make some use of WOODFIRE BRO to hold its position towards the back of the field.

He said when placed under pressure from the 700 Metres he became concerned with his mount's action behind which resulted in him retiring the horse from the event leaving the 600 Metres.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

WOODFIRE BRO was transported to veterinary hospital for further veterinary care and examination.

The performance of WOODFIRE BRO, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, WOODFIRE BRO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the running of Race 3, the track classification was officially changed from "Good" to "Good to Firm" This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.

As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 3 being run on a track rated "Good to Firm"
