Racing Incident Report
Race Four : (257) - THE LONGINES HONG KONG VASE - Class G1 - 2400Meters
Horse No 2 AL RIFFA (L912) D B McMonagle Jumped only fairly.
Near the 100 Metres shifted in and made slight contact with GIAVELLOTTO.
Horse No 3 GIAVELLOTTO (K923) A Atzeni Bumped near the 100 Metres.
Noted to have lost its left front plate after the race.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 GOLIATH (K920) C Soumillon Briefly held up near the 400 Metres.
Horse No 5 SOSIE (L913) M Guyon Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 URBAN CHIC (L914) C Lemaire In the early stages raced keenly and for some distance near the 2100 Metres was steadied away from GIAVELLOTTO.
C Lemaire reported that the horse raced too keenly throughout the early and middle stages of the event and as a result when caught wide he was obliged to allow URBAN CHIC to stride forward from the 1800 Metres to avoid covering additional ground.
He said because of the manner in which the horse raced throughout the early and middle stages it was not able to finish the race off in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 8 EYDON (L915) O Murphy O Murphy reported that the horse travelled comfortably in the early stages.
He said when URBAN CHIC improved to his outside near the 1100 Metres his mount did not travel well thereafter before giving ground in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 9 MOMENTS IN TIME (H474) H Bowman After travelling a short distance got its head up and became unbalanced when being steadied to allow GOLIATH to cross.
In the early stages raced keenly and for some distance near the 1700 Metres was steadied to avoid GOLIATH.
H Bowman stated that he was instructed to ride the horse in a more conservative manner today to attempt to have the horse run out a strong 2400 Metres.
Trainer C S Shum confirmed the instructions issued.
Horse No 10 BUNDLE AWARD (K020) J McDonald Jumped awkwardly.
After travelling a short distance became unbalanced when being steadied to allow GIAVELLOTTO to cross.
Horse No 11 KA YING GENERATION (J075) L Ferraris From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Whacked to jump favourite, French raider Sosie was left wide without cover from the 1,100m but still worked to the lead 350m out and kept on gamely for the win. He's a world class 2,400m horse. Early favourite Giavellotto rallied nicely through the centre for second after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He ran very well after winning this race 12 months back. Goliath just lost out in a battle for second after a rails run from behind midfield. Al Riffa closed off nicely near the outside for fourth after making his run two from the rear. Los Angeles plugged on for fifth without threatening the first four sitting third in the run after Urban Chic punched forward to lead 1,150m out. Bundle Award made headway late to just miss fifth prize money after biding his time second last. He was the best of the locals and would have preferred a stronger pace. Moments In Time beat a few after making his run near the rear. This is too rich for his blood.
