Punted late Lucky Sam Gor travelled wide near the front from gate 10 but rushed to the lead 250m out and held on in a photo finish for a third win and first in the grade from 13 starts. Stormy Grove finished nicely to just miss after a rails run from behind midfield. He appreciated a step up to 1,400m after flashing potential in three other local runs over 1,200m. Without Compare dashed late down the outside for third after making his run at the rear from gate 14. It was a smart run on his local debut. Favourite Blazing Wukong plugged away for fourth after a handy run. Helene Supafeeling stayed on for fifth after getting posted wide travelling midfield. It was a good run carrying more weight following a local debut win over 1,200m. Ivy League kept on well for sixth after a one-off trip from midfield. It was his best effort from five runs over 1,400m. Akashvani was doing his best work late after making his run second last from gate 13.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eleven : (344) - STANLEY GAP HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 CIRCUIT GRAND SLAM (K201) C Y Ho Jumped only fairly.

C Y Ho reported that he initially had a trailing position behind HELENE SUPAFEELING.

He said when CHEAHA shifted out near the 800 Metres CIRCUIT GRAND SLAM was obliged to race very wide and without cover thereafter which resulted in it not being able to run on in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 HELENE SUPAFEELING (L028) H Bowman Jumped awkwardly.

In the middle stages raced keenly and near the 1100 Metres got its head up when being checked away from LUCKY SAM GOR.

Horse No 3 AKASHVANI (K234) L Hewitson L Hewitson stated that he was given the option of holding a forward position if his mount commenced well.

He said when AKASHVANI made contact with the right side of its starting gate on jumping and as a consequence jumped only fairly he elected to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages.

Horse No 4 MASTER OF ALL (H177) M L Yeung M L Yeung reported that his mount travelled comfortably in the lead but failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 STORMY GROVE (K478) H Bentley Jumped only fairly.

Held up for clear running between the 450 Metres and the 300 Metres.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 WITHOUT COMPARE (L151) H T Mo From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

In the early stages raced keenly and near the 1200 Metres was steadied to avoid AKASHVANI when being shifted behind that horse.

Horse No 9 TIN FOOK (K167) Z Purton Between the 400 Metres and the 100 Meres was badly held up for clear running.

After the 100 Metres TIN FOOK endeavoured to improve into a narrow run to the inside of BLAZING WUKONG and was then checked when crowded by BLAZING WUKONG which shifted in after its rider A Atzeni corrected his mount to prevent interference to IVY LEAGUE.

A Atzeni was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Horse No 10 IVY LEAGUE (H116) R Kingscote Approaching the 100 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when improving between HELENE SUPAFEELING and BLAZING WUKONG.

Horse No 11 KING OF SELECTION (K397) M Chadwick Jumped only fairly.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 13 LUCKY SAM GOR (K114) M F Poon Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

M F Poon reported that the instructions were to hold a midfield position with cover.

He said when the horse began well he was able to hold a more forward position than anticipated.

Horse No 14 BLAZING WUKONG (K335) A Atzeni Between the 400 Metres and the 250 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running.

Leaving the 250 Metres was shifted to the outside of MIGHTY STEED to obtain clear running.

Near the 100 Metres was disappointed for clear running to the outside of LUCKY SAM GOR and as a result was shifted in in an attempt to obtain clear running but was then steadied to avoid causing interference to TIN FOOK.

As a result BLAZING WUKONG did not obtain clear running until approaching the 50 Metres.
