Recap by phillip woo

Stormy Grove had a patient ride travelling third last and three wide and rushed home down the outside to take control 100m out for back-to-back wins. He was suited by the race tempo but has stamped himself as a live chance for the Derby. Invincible Ibis ran on nicely near the inside for second after a rails run from midfield. He handled the step up to 1,800m after running on late for sixth from gate 11 in the Classic Mile. Patch Of Cosmo ran on nicely to just get the nose down for third after a wide trip travelling fourth last. He was able to build on an unlucky ninth in the Classic Mile. Numbers kept on gamely for fourth after strolling forward lead from Akashvani at a quick pace 1,000m out. He lost nothing in defeat after making all in two prior starts. Dazzling Fit stayed on for fifth after a wide with cover trip from better than midfield. It was another honest effort.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (483) - THE HONG KONG CLASSIC CUP - Class 4YO - 1800Meters

Horse No 1 LITTLE PARADISE (K246) C Y Ho Approaching the 350 Metres shifted out to improve to the outside of PATCH OF COSMO and as a result made contact with INFINITE RESOLVE.

C Y Ho reported that his mount was fractious in the starting gates which necessitated him calling to the Starter to delay the start.

He said when the start was effected LITTLE PARADISE was standing awkwardly and as a result jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 NUMBERS (L080) K C Leung When questioned K C Leung stated that his instructions were to lead.

He said in the early stages along the Back Straight he remained wide and allowed his mount time to move forward and to race in the lead.

He said after improving to the outside of AKASHVANI near the 1000 Metres, when that runner did not show the intent to hold the lead, he elected to allow NUMBERS to stride forward to cross AKASHVANI and lead as instructed.

When questioned regarding his riding from the 800 Metres and if there was an opportunity to set a slower pace K C Leung stated that as NUMBERS is a big striding horse and one-paced he was satisfied that the horse was racing in a comfortable rhythm and as a result he elected to allow it to continue to stride forward without restraining his mount as he felt it would provide it with the best opportunity to obtain the best possible placing in the race.

Horse No 3 SAGACIOUS LIFE (K507) Z Purton Jumped awkwardly and then made contact with LUCKY SAM GOR which shifted in.

Bumped near the 1600 Metres.

For some distance in the early stages raced tight to the inside of LUCKY SAM GOR (C L Chau) which shifted in.

C L Chau was advised to exercise more care.

Z Purton stated that after being crowded in the early stages his mount raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages and would not settle.

He added as he commenced to improve into the race near the 200 Metres he was obliged to check his mount when disappointed for clear running to the inside of LUCKY SAM GOR (C L Chau) when that runner shifted in slightly.

He said after this incident SAGACIOUS LIFE was unable to finish the race off.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.
