Racing Incident Report
Race Five : (499) - NORFOLK HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1600Meters
Horse No 1 ARMOR GOLDEN EAGLE (K566) A Atzeni Shifted in after travelling a short distance and was bumped.
Approaching the 350 Metres lay in and as a consequence was steadied to avoid LUCKY YEAR which shifted out slightly.
Horse No 2 DANICA'S CHOICE (L096) L Hewitson A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 3 MASTER TRILLION (J442) K C Leung K C Leung pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 300 Metres (see THE GOLDEN KNIGHT).
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 THE GOLDEN KNIGHT (K341) J Orman The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view that an incident had occurred near the 300 Metres which cast sufficient doubt on whether MASTER TRILLION should be declared the winner.
Subsequently J Orman, the rider of the second placegetter, THE GOLDEN KNIGHT, lodged a protest/objection against MASTER TRILLION being declared the winner alleging interference near the 300 Metres.
After considering the evidence the Stewards found that THE GOLDEN KNIGHT had established clear running between GOLDEN FORTUNE and MASTER TRILLION approaching the 300 Metres.
A short distance later MASTER TRILLION (K C Leung) then shifted out, resulting in THE GOLDEN KNIGHT having to be checked when crowded between GOLDEN FORTUNE and MASTER TRILLION.
Having regard to the margin of a head between the two horses at the finish of the race and the manner in which THE GOLDEN KNIGHT finished the race off the Stewards were comfortably satisfied that had the interference not have occurred, THE GOLDEN KNIGHT would have finished in advance of MASTER TRILLION.
On that basis the protest/objection was sustained and the placings amended to read No.
4, THE GOLDEN KNIGHT, 1st; No.
3, MASTER TRILLION, 2nd; No.
9, MEGA MASTERMIND, 3rd; and No.
13, FLYING AMANI, 4th.
Sent for sampling post-race.
At a subsequent inquiry, K C Leung pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out when not clear of THE GOLDEN KNIGHT, resulting in THE GOLDEN KNIGHT having to be checked to avoid MASTER TRILLION.
K C Leung was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 18 March 2026 at Happy Valley.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 1 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his good race riding record.
Horse No 5 BEAUTY VIVA (K155) H Bowman On jumping was crowded by LUCKY YEAR which shifted in.
Horse No 6 VICTOR SUPREME (K547) D B McMonagle Approaching the 150 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when improving into a narrow run between SMILING FALCON and DANICA'S CHOICE which shifted out.
Horse No 7 LUCKY YEAR (K443) M F Poon Shifted in at the start and was bumped.
Horse No 8 JUSTIFY YOURSELF (J386) C L Chau Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 11 SMILING FALCON (K459) R Kingscote Near the 1300 Metres was steadied when being shifted behind LUCKY YEAR to obtain cover.
R Kingscote stated his mount finished the race off only fairly in the Home Straight and could offer no excuse for the horse's performance.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 12 FRANTANCK (H429) Y L Chung After travelling a short distance became unbalanced when bumped by ARMOR GOLDEN EAGLE.
Horse No 13 FLYING AMANI (K152) K Teetan Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Favourite The Golden Knight settled midfield on the rails and rallied to finish a close second after getting hampered 200m out by Master Trillion but was later promoted one position following a stewards' inquiry. It was his first win after placing in four of six others this term. Master Trillion just scrambled in after leading 150m out following a perfect trip fourth on the fence but was later demoted to second after causing interference to The Golden Knight. He should repay backers shortly after two good runs following a downgrade. Mega Mastermind kept on gamely for third after chasing the runaway leader Frantanck near the inside from gate 12. It was his best effort from four starts with a step up to 1,600m. Flying Amani ran on nicely late after straight two off the fence for fourth travelling third last after a slow start. Victor Supreme made good ground late through the centre to win a blanket finish for fifth after a patient ride.
