Recap by phillip woo

King Dance was ridden patiently five back on the fence and came with a perfectly-timed run down the outside to just overhaul Nyx Gluck for a third win from four starts. Nyx Gluck found one just too good after leading 200m out following a prominent run wide without cover the entire trip from gate seven. It was a huge run in defeat. Star Figure ran on nicely with three wider out to finish a close third after making his run five back and one off the fence. He's honest and was able to build on a closing sixth two runs ago at his only other 1,400m start. Favourite Ace stayed on nicely for fourth after a wide trip with cover travelling midfield from gate 13. It was an encouraging effort. Star Mac came from near last for fifth without threatening the top four. It was a positive showing over an inadequate trip at his first start his new trainer following a bleed in December.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (637) - FWD INSURANCE BOCOM HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 STAR MAC (J053) J McDonald Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 2 JOLTIN (L186) E C W Wong Shifted in on jumping and was bumped.

The performance of JOLTIN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again JOLTIN, will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 ROBOT STAR (K559) H Bowman Jumped only fairly.

Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between GREEN ANGEL and WARRIORS DREAM, both of which shifted ground.

H Bowman stated that his mount was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, ROBOT STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 4 NYX GLUCK (K438) E Brown Lay out over the final 200 Metres, resulting in its rider E Brown having to stop riding and straighten his mount leaving the 50 Metres.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 KING DANCE (K157) C Y Ho Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 WARRIORS DREAM (K255) L Hewitson On jumping became unbalanced when bumped by JOLTIN which shifted in.

Horse No 9 DAILY ACCLAIM (L273) J Moreira Jumped only fairly.

For some distance near the 600 Metres became unbalanced when buffeted between LUCKY BALERION and ACE.

J Moreira stated that his mount was stirred up prior to the event.

He said after travelling satisfactorily during the early stages his mount did not respond to his riding when asked for an effort in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 11 LUCKY BALERION (L125) M F Poon Bumped near the 600 Metres.

Approaching the 200 Metres was steadied when held up for clear running behind PHOENIX LIGHT as that runner was giving ground.

As a result LUCKY BALERION, which was positioned close to the heels of PHOENIX LIGHT, blundered when being shifted to the outside of PHOENIX LIGHT to obtain clear running near the 150 Metres.

After being shifted to the outside of PHOENIX LIGHT rider M F Poon dropped his left rein for a number of strides.

Horse No 12 ACE (K307) C L Chau Bumped near the 600 Metres.

Prior to declaring weighed-in the Stewards gave consideration if there were sufficient grounds for a protest/objection against NYX GLUCK being declared the second placegetter subsequent to ACE being crowded over the concluding stages when NYX GLUCK (E Brown) shifted out.

Having regard to the margin of 1 1/4 lengths between the two horses at the finish of the race the Stewards declined to lodge a protest/objection and weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

E Brown was reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than what he did on this occasion.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 13 CALIFORNIA BAY (K364) K Teetan K Teetan confirmed the instructions were to lead.

He said when his mount jumped only fairly he was obliged to make use of it in the early stages to comply with those instructions and as a result CALIFORNIA BAY did not finish the race off when under pressure in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 14 STAR FIGURE (K215) B Avdulla Jumped only fairly.

Near the 50 Metres became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by ACE which was taken out.
