Manfred Man Ka-leung is within touching distance of equalling his personal best, but the veteran trainer is not getting carried away about the chances of hat-trick-seeking four-year-old Find My Love in Monday night’s Class Two Kau Sai Chau Handicap (1,400m) at Sha Tin.

Sitting on 42 victories through 83 of this term’s 88 meetings, Man is just one win short of the career-best 43 he managed in the 2009-10 season.

Man, winner of three Group One contests this term thanks to the superb Lucky Sweynesse, has six runners on Monday night’s card, which is the replacement for the Happy Valley meeting lost to weather on November 2.

Find My Love is, by far, the most interesting of Man’s representatives after winning consecutive races under Keith Yeung Ming-lun.

The Frankel gelding carries just 122 pounds stepping up in class and jumps from the inside alley, but Man gave the impression he does not have high hopes of his charge continuing his winning streak.

“Now that he’s in Class Two, maybe it will be a little bit tough for him,” said a matter-of-fact Man.

Joining Find My Love as last-start winners in Monday night’s sole Class Two event are Frankie Lor Fu-chuen-trained pair A Pal and Sauvestre.

Lor was pleasantly surprised by A Pal’s effort last time out, with the four-year-old returning a winner after nearly five months on the sidelines following a bleed.

“I was a little bit surprised he won first up after his bleed, but he was fresh, he got a good draw and he won the race easy,” Lor said.

“Now we go up to Class Two. His draw isn’t too bad, and he’s got a light weight, so I think he’ll go close to winning again.”

A Pal has competed in Class Two company before, finishing seventh in a 95-75-rated contest the day he bled, and he will jump from gate five under Derek Leung Ka-chun on his return to the grade.

It was Leung who piloted A Pal to his last-start triumph – he’s ridden the More Than Ready gelding in all seven of his Hong Kong races – and Luke Ferraris will also be chasing a repeat success on his Lor-trained mount.

Sauvestre is proven in Class Two company, pipping favourite Flaming Rabbit as a $22 chance last month, but on this occasion, the five-year-old and Ferraris must overcome a 132-pound impost and a wide gate.

“From draw 12, I’m going to ask his jockey to go forward, and if someone else wants to lead, sit outside the leader – the same as last time,” Lor confirmed.

Flaming Rabbit also takes his place in a hot Class Two heat, with Douglas Whyte’s Group Three-winning German import looking to put consecutive seconds behind him and break through in Hong Kong for the first time.

Lyle Hewitson will ride Flaming Rabbit from barrier nine in a race that also features impressive trio Howdeepisyourlove, Galaxy Witness and another last-start winner, Flying Ace.
