Recap by phillip woo

Specked at odds, Palepale was posted without cover in third from a wide gate, rushed forward out deep to poke his head in front at the 450m, established a near two-length advantage at the 200m and just held on late for a second dirt win this season from an outside alley. Firming favourite Grand Plus was posted three deep with cover from a good gate, straightened four deep and ran on reasonably well to just grab second ahead of Medic Kingdom, who kept plugging away after tracking the leader Star Of Wai Bo in second. Star Of Wai Bo built a lead of nearly three lengths at the 800m after working forward from an awkward, was headed 450m out and stopping 150m out. Easy Success travelled one off ahead of midfield, turned the final bend with three wider out and kept on rather one-paced over the final 200m. All Friends travelled behind midfield and two off the rails without much cover, swung the final bend with one wider out and made some ground to just miss a pay slip. Sunshine Kid enjoyed the box-seat run, dropped back to fifth coming to the final bend and came up flat. Grassland Dragon never was a factor after travelling behind midfield and one off the rails.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (088)-LOS ANGELES HANDICAP (Sec1) - Class 4 - 1200Metres

JOYFUL MISSION began awkwardly and lost ground.

MEDIC SWORDSMAN was hampered on jumping after being bumped by GRASSLAND DRAGON which in turn was taken out by MEDIC KINGDOM.

EASY SUCCESS shifted out at the start and bumped GRAND PLUS.

After the 800 Metres, EASY SUCCESS hung in badly despite the efforts of its rider, G Mosse, resulting in COLUMBUS LINE losing a considerable amount of ground when severely checked inside SEA SMOKE which was also badly checked.

In this incident, GRASSLAND DRAGON, which was following EASY SUCCESS, was hampered in consequence.

As the Stewards were satisfied that G Mosse had taken all reasonable measures to prevent EASY SUCCESS from shifting ground in this incident, no action was taken.

Given the significance of the incident, the Stewards ruled that EASY SUCCESS must satisfactorily undergo a series of consecutive official barrier trials around a bend prior to being permitted to race again.

Throughout the race, PALEPALE travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of SUNSHINE KID and GRASSLAND DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

PALEPALE and GRAND PLUS were sent for sampling.
