Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Bullish Smart reclaimed the lead 300m after being headed by Unique Happiest and kept on gamely to hold off Big Bang Bong for the win to give trainer Tony Cruz a 1,100th winner. He's pretty honest if he draws a gate but will find things harder with a return to Class Two. Big Bang Bong was closing the gap with every stride following a oneoff run in midfield. He's still open to improvement and should be competitive up in grade off a lightweight. Specked at long odds, Unique Happiest was posted deep until clearing for the lead from a wide gate 1,100m out and only succumbed 100m out. It was a better run but he requires a drop in class. Imperial Gallantry rallied well near the inside after travelling fourth from the rear to grab fourth in deep stretch. He's a quirky type but is certainly capable of big runs over a mile on either surface or course. Chater Legend had his chance following a midfield run and peaked on his effort 100m out. The extra weight following a last-start win burst his bubble. Victory Machine and Victory Day were given every chance in the run but came up flat in the straight run. Victory Machine needs a bit more time to acclimatize, while Victory Day needs to drop lower in the handicaps.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (406)-THE VOLUNTEERS' CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1650Metres

On arrival at the barriers, K Teetan expressed concern regarding the action of DIGITAL GENERATION.

DIGITAL GENERATION was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said after the necessary consultations that the horse was suitable to race.

WHAT MAN HORSE, which was fractious in the barriers, bounded in the air as the start was effected and consequently was slow to begin.

MR PELE was crowded for room on jumping between DIGITAL GENERATION which was taken out by CHATER LEGEND and WORLD RECORD which shifted in after being bumped by UNIQUE HAPPIEST.

YOUNG RANGER lost its right front plate a short distance after the start.

Passing the 800 Metres, VICTORY DAY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WORLD RECORD which was racing tight outside the heels of BULLISH SMART which shifted out from behind UNIQUE HAPPIEST.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, MR PELE was momentarily crowded for room inside DIGITAL GENERATION which was racing tight inside YOUNG RANGER.

Near the 450 Metres, CHATER LEGEND was awkwardly placed close to the heels of VICTORY MACHINE.

At the entrance to the Straight, UNIQUE HAPPIEST and BULLISH SMART bumped.

In the Straight, VICTORY MACHINE lay out under pressure.

As this was the second occasion from as many starts that WHAT MAN HORSE had finished tailed out, the Stewards ruled that the horse will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

When questioned, C Schofield stated that WORLD RECORD, which was having its first race start at Happy Valley tonight, hung out throughout the early and middle stages and consequently was not able to muster sufficient speed to be able to cross VICTORY DAY to its inside.

He said he had to continually fight against WORLD RECORD in an endeavour to have it shift in closer to the rail and it was not until near the 700 Metres that he was able to get the horse to shift in to race with cover behind BULLISH SMART.

He said when making the turn after the 600 Metres WORLD RECORD hung out badly and continued to do so until after straightening.

He added WORLD RECORD continued to hang out in the early part of the Straight and because of this he eased the horse down over the concluding stages.

A veterinary inspection of WORLD RECORD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The racing manners of WORLD RECORD were considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, WORLD RECORD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of YOUNG RANGER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BULLISH SMART and BIG BANG BONG were sent for sampling.
