Racing Incident Report
Race Four: (212) - JEDBURGH HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters
QUADRUPLE DOUBLE shifted in at the start and bumped MONICA.
Shortly after the start, THOU SHALL SING was awkwardly placed outside LOOK ERAS which, when being ridden along, got its head on the side and shifted out.
From wide barriers, LOVE CHUNGHWA and TORNADO TWIST were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After being ridden along for a short distance in the early stages, SPRING WIN was shifted across behind runners when the horse failed to show early speed.
After the 900 Metres, FLYING FORCE commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of EVERBRAVE which was racing close to the heels of FOX CHEUNGER which was travelling keenly and awkwardly placed behind THOU SHALL SING.
This resulted in FLYING FORCE being shifted out away from the heels of EVERBRAVE approaching the 800 Metres, forcing FLYING FORCE to race without cover for a short distance until being able to shift back in behind EVERBRAVE after the 700 Metres.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, EVERBRAVE got its head on the side and hung out and then continued to hang out until entering the Home Straight.
Passing the 200 Metres, MONICA was shifted to the inside of QUADRUPLE DOUBLE after racing tight between that horse and LOVE CHUNGHWA which shifted in when racing tight inside the heels of FOX CHEUNGER.
Passing the 100 Metres, SPRING WIN, which was attempting to improve into a tight run between FLYING FORCE and FOX CHEUNGER, was shifted to the outside of FLYING FORCE after being disappointed for running between those horses.
Close to the finishing line, MONICA was checked away from the heels of LOOK ERAS.
Also close to the finishing line, LOVE CHUNGHWA raced close to the heels of EVERBRAVE and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
The Stewards were satisfied that this incident did not affect LOVE CHUNGHWA's finishing position.
When questioned, Z Purton stated that in pre-race discussions, it was felt that the race would be run at a good tempo and therefore there may be an opportunity for FEARLESS FIRE to shift in and race in advance of midfield with cover.
He said accordingly he rode his mount along in the early stages from the outside barrier and making the turn near the 1000 Metres steadied his mount in order to shift in behind THOU SHALL SING to obtain cover.
He said when that horse improved forward of FEARLESS FIRE, EVERBRAVE maintained its position inside FEARLESS FIRE and this resulted in FEARLESS FIRE being left racing very wide and without cover.
He added as it was not available for him to then obtain a position with cover as had been hoped, he therefore allowed FEARLESS FIRE to improve its position approaching and passing the 800 Metres and shift across to race outside the lead after the 700 Metres.
A veterinary inspection of FLYING FORCE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.
QUADRUPLE DOUBLE, FEARLESS FIRE and EVERBRAVE were sent for sampling.

Punted late Fearless Fire worked hard to eventually park outside the leader Look Eras at the 800m, shot to the front 250m out and kept on nicely to score carrying top weight following a downgrade. Everbrave stayed on well for second despite over-racing without cover in a handy spot. He produces an odd good run now and then. It was an eyecatcher by newcomer Tornado Twist to come from last at the 1,000m and widest out following a sluggish break to grab third in the late stages from Thou Shall Sing. Thou Shall Sing was a bit one-paced after chasing the leader. He's honest but has trouble saluting. Love Chunghwa got going late after straightening five deep following a patient ride at the back from an awkward gate. Look Eras faded after dictating the run. The 1,000m might suit him better now. Favourite Quadruple Double never fired travelling in an unfamiliar midfield spot in his first Valley run. Prefer him at Sha Tin.
