Recap by phillip woo

Backed late General Dino just wore down Travel First in deep stretch following a prominent run on the fence to open his win account at start 25. He was well rated for his first run on the surface. Firming late in betting Travel First did everything right leading from an outside gate but get the win. The pressure from Whampoa Star at the 1,200m was likely the culprit in defeat. Favourite Deal Maker was doing some nice work late following a rail run in midfield to place in each of his four dirt outings and looks like he'll get 1,800m as well. Top-weighted Remarkable stayed travelling better than midfield to finish a distant fourth with money coming for him late. It was another honest effort but he may require a claimer's allowance. Whampoa Star was yielding ground over the final 150m after rushing forward to press the leader 1,200m out. Enfolding only plodded travelling worse than midfield with cover. He's not easy to get right.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (552) - SHA KOK HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

TENNESSEE BOSS began only fairly.

FRIENDS OF NANJING was crowded on jumping between ENFOLDING and GALLANT SPIRIT, both of which shifted ground.

From the outside barrier, ASSOCIATION FANS was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

GREAT JOY was steadied for some distance in the early stages to obtain cover.

After the 1300 Metres, TENNESSEE BOSS proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of DEAL MAKER.

Then near the 1200 Metres, TENNESSEE BOSS shifted out and bumped ENFOLDING when continuing to prove difficult to settle.

Approaching the 700 Metres, GREAT JOY momentarily raced tight between TENNESSEE BOSS which shifted out and ASSOCIATION FANS which got its head on the side and lay in.

In the early part of the Straight, DEAL MAKER was awkwardly placed behind WHAMPOA STAR when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.

The performance of FRIENDS OF NANJING, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, FRIENDS OF NANJING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of FRIENDS OF NANJING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

K Teetan, the rider of GENERAL DINO, was fined $5,000 for repeatedly using the whip down the horse's right shoulder in the Home Straight.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration they had not previously spoken to Jockey Teetan regarding using the whip in this manner.

When questioned, K C Leung stated that he had previously ridden ENFOLDING and formed the view that the horse does not possess a turn of foot but is rather one-paced.

He said in tonight's race he had been following REMARKABLE in the early and middle stages which was not being run at a quick tempo.

He said as REMARKABLE is also one-paced, he elected to shift out from behind REMARKABLE after the 800 Metres in order to improve around that horse rather than have to follow that horse when it shifted out at a later stage.

A veterinary inspection of GREAT JOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

DEAL MAKER, GENERAL DINO and TRAVEL FIRST were sent for sampling.
