Racing Incident Report
Race Four: (312) - THE JANUARY CUP (HANDICAP) - Class G3 - 1800Meters
KA YING STAR began only fairly and then was crowded for room between RELIABLE TEAM which shifted in and SUNNY STAR which was shifted out away from SUPER FOOTBALL which itself was bumped when taken out by ZEBROWSKI.
This resulted in KA YING STAR racing back in the field.
After this, SUNNY STAR was steadied to obtain cover.
Passing the 1700 Metres, DECRYPT shifted in and brushed RELIABLE TEAM.
SUPER FOOTBALL, which was following RELIABLE TEAM, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse near the 1650 Metres.
Passing the 1600 Metres, ZEBROWSKI momentarily raced tight inside the heels of RELIABLE TEAM which continued to be awkwardly placed inside DECRYPT.
ZEBROWSKI then got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover behind BUTTERFIELD after the 1600 Metres.
C Wong (DECRYPT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of RELIABLE TEAM, resulting in RELIABLE TEAM being taken in onto BUTTERFIELD which was hampered when unnecessarily crowded for room and shifting in and momentarily crowding the racing room of FAST MOST FURIOUS.
ZEBROWSKI, which was following BUTTERFIELD, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
Given the current uncertainty in respect of the Club's riding roster in the near future, the Stewards decided that the appropriate penalty was for C Wong's licence to ride in races to be suspended for the racemeeting to be conducted at Sha Tin on Sunday, 23 January 2022.
This racemeeting directly precedes a previous period of suspension from riding in races yet to be served by Jockey Wong.
In addition, Jockey Wong was fined $5,000.
A veterinary inspection of KA YING STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ZEBROWSKI and SUNNY STAR were sent for sampling.

Odds-on favourite Zebrowski let down well to take control 100m out after a rail run in midfield carrying a light weight. He was suited by the pace but does continue to improve with each start and clearly has a promising future as a stayer. Sunny Star came from last to grab second in deep stretch. He was facing his toughest test to date but rarely produces a bad run and enjoyed the light weight. Savvy Nine found a couple too good after surging to the lead near the 200m following a prominent run from a wide gate. He doesn't know how to produce a bad run over this course and distance. Punted late Fast Most Furious held his ground after a rails run fore of midfield. He had no excuse and is just a better horse at Sha Tin. Super Football made some ground late without menacing from towards the rear. It was a shade better run this term with a switch to the Valley. Butterfield just held his ground after a one-off trip in midfield. He's mixing his form. Likely front-runner Ka Ying Star blew any chance after missing the kick. Reliable Team was stopping 100m out after working hard to lead 650m out from Decrypt. He had an excuse.
