Not many blackbookers are as obvious as Domineer at Happy Valley on Wednesday night and the Caspar Fownes-trained sprinter is not going to have much trouble getting to triple figures in the ratings.
Sat in behind runners by Zac Purton, he produced the performance of the evening and there is a great deal more to come for Domineer. But it did fall into the too obvious category, so we are looking elsewhere for a horse to follow in the immediate future.
One race earlier, Tony Millard-trained Flying Unicorn produced the run of his career in finishing second to Victory Hero and he should snare a win before the end of the season.
The key to Flying Unicorn seems to be the prettier the ride, the worse he goes, and there was nothing pretty about the tough love Neil Callan gave him.
Flying Unicorn worked three wide to the Football Club turn to find the front, and got no peace once he was there, pressed by Invictus and Mighty K, before Callan got stuck straight into him at the 350m.
All along, the pace had been solid - as indicated by the other lead horses dropping away - but Flying Unicorn dug in and drew off from the field even though Victory Hero got the better of him late.
One lower level horse that has been flying all term is Hei Hei Posh and his season is not over after his run on Wednesday night.
Back to Class Four, he had top weight of 133 pounds and nothing in his favour from barrier 12, in an oddly-run race - a strong early speed quickly followed by an anchor drop in the second section - and a muddling pace was never going to suit Hei Hei Posh. He was back early then Purton attempted to go around the field midrace, only to get marooned out there when the leaders picked up again.
Hei Hei Posh stuck on gamely to finish close behind the placings and, while his record for the term reads 12 starts for a win and four placings, this was one of those unplaced runs that was right up there with the best he can do.
