Size hope arrives in good shape for prestigious Japanese mile
Nobody would expect anything else from the efficient John Size, but the trainer reported all was well with Hong Kong Mile winner Glorious Days as he prepares for the Group One Yasuda Kinen in Tokyo next weekend. The gelding left last Tuesday and arrived without a hitch at the Shiroi Riding School which serves as the first port of quarantine for horses visiting for major events in Tokyo "He arrived in good shape, lost a bit of weight, which is normal but he's eating and drinking and the reports are he's ok," said Size. Nine-year-old gives his all to win again for Derek Cruz
It won't necessarily go down in the annals of great training performances but Derek Cruz getting nine-year-old Street Cat to win two from his last three, even if it is in Class Five, is certainly some sort of accomplishment given the gelding's creaky joints. "He is a tough old horse and he takes everything you throw at him, but he has a lot of issues," Cruz said. Street Cat stormed home out wide in the Tong Fuk Handicap, helped by Dicky Lui Cheuk-yin's seven-pound claim. "He was giving everything anyway," Lui said. Michael Cox

It's mission accomplished for Fownes' charge
Born To Win won't make the list of Caspar Fownes' best horses, not even the list of the best horses he has run this week, but he did lend what weight he could to the trainers' championship aspirations in an upset victory over 50-1 yesterday. Born To Win was given an excellent trip by Vincent Ho Chak-yiu before going clear and holding another outsider Capital K (Tim Clark) in the final stages. "He's done his job for the season with two wins. Vincent put him just where I wanted him in the run," said Fownes. Alan Aitken
