While much of the talk after the Class Four up the straight on opening day was about the stunning finish of Sensation to snatch victory in the last breath, Incredible Fellow stamped himself just as much a horse to follow as the winner.
There is no doubt the finishing runs of both Sensation and runner-up Mellifluent were flattered by the torrid lead pace, but the winner's effort was still pretty meritorious. Mellifluent is handy himself and Sensation gave him two lengths' start from the 400m and ran him down.
So, even with the flattery of a fast tempo aside, the Benno Yung Tin-pang-trained gelding was still responsible for a terrific win and he is going somewhere worthwhile in time.
But the same can be said for Incredible Fellow in defeat, as he was the one doing the most work and carrying the most weight among the front runners.
Not the best to begin, he was then used hard to go forward and left as Olivier Doleuze attempted to overcome that poisonous one barrier on the grey.
That meant engaging in a furious battle with lighter-weighted Victory General and that ensured defeat for both of them.
In three starts to date, Incredible Fellow has let nobody down with his speed and endeavour and stuck on gamely to still be there at the finish. His turn to win again is near if he gets more favourable circumstances.
In the slightly less obvious category was Almond Lee-trained Fashion Maestro in the Class Three behind Supreme Falcon. His embattled trainer is in need of horses who can produce multiple wins and Fashion Maestro should be good for a couple over this season after showing he has come back well from the break.
Just before season's end, Fashion Maestro had a tough run before finishing only three lengths from Berlini over 1,400m and he had a similarly tough wide trip on Sunday.
Fashion Maestro held on well enough until the final 150m and will be fitter, but he is quite one-paced, too, and will be better suited over further than 1,200m - his wins will come when he can find the lead and control a race.
