Another day, another treble, a feature win and a Joao Moreira Jockey Challenge victory, but what the Magic Man most wanted to talk about was the potential of Chris So Wai-yin's sprinter Fabulous One.

He is a really nice horse, Class Two at least, but I think he could even end up at Group Three level
Joao Moreira

"He is a really nice horse, Class Two at least, but I think he could even end up at Group Three level," Moreira said after he extended his jockeys' championship lead to 10 wins clear after just eight meetings.

Fabulous One had delivered Moreira the first of his victories with a convincing maiden win and the most exciting aspect of it, according to the Brazilian, is that the best is yet to come for So's lightly raced prospect.

"Just wait for this horse later in the season," Moreira said. "He was first-up today, and whatever he did there he will improve on."

Fabulous One had shown in trials and trackwork that he had the necessary engine to compete at a high level, but had thrown his three races away last season with poor racing manners.

So had reached into his bag of tricks with myriad gear changes to bring the gelding under control - crossed nose bands, a hood and pacifiers all tried in various combinations - but in the end it was the simple but priceless commodity of time that made the difference.

"I have to thank the owners for that," So said. "He has come back a better horse as a four-year-old and that is only because we were able to take him to the trials and allow him to mature. Not all owners are so patient."

Moreira was aboard for the most recent trial where Fabulous One showed marked improvement and the sprinter brought it to race day, dictating in front after crossing from barrier eight and caning his rivals by three and a half lengths.

"Now he has to deal with the handicapper because he really ran away with that race in the end - it was a pretty wide margin," Moreira said. "But I think he can cope. Chris has done a great job with this horse, I was just the lucky one who got to sit on top."

While Moreira has Fabulous One heading for bigger things, he will still be in Class Four next start after beginning the season on a rating of 46 and So still has the option of taking the son of Elusive City to the dirt, where he has trialled exceptionally.

Moreira's second winner The Show got some favours as barrier one gifted him a box-seat run, but the horse's trainer Dennis Yip Chor-hong believes his Class Three winner can win again next start and make his way into Class Two.

What might hold The Show back though, according to Moreira, is a lack of size: "He hasn't got much of a body and he jumps up into the top of the grade now with a big weight. He will have to get over that hump."
