Australian jockey Luke Currie is expected to miss at least the next two meetings after suffering concussion in a fall from the David Hall-trained Pride Of Eight during a barrier trial at Sha Tin on Friday morning.

Currie came off the three-year-old when the saddle slipped but was talking to medical staff as he was loaded into an ambulance and taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for scans, which uncovered no further injuries.

He was meant to have a full book of 10 rides at Happy Valley on Sunday afternoon but will miss that meeting and likely next Wednesday’s fixture at the city circuit as well.

“The chief medical officer has advised the stewards that jockey Luke Currie, who was dislodged from Pride Of Eight in batch three of the barrier trials conducted at Sha Tin racecourse, has been stood down from riding until further notice,” Terry Bailey, the Jockey Club licensing committee secretary, said in a statement.

Pride Of Eight runs loose after his saddle slipped, dislodging jockey Luke Currie.

“A further release will be issued in respect of Currie’s fitness to resume riding at the appropriate time.”

Currie’s replacements for Sunday are Antoine Hamelin (Yee Cheong Warrior and Decrypt), Derek Leung Ka-chun (Noir Rider and Hit The Shot), Jerry Chau Chun-lok (Charge On), Zac Purton (High Rise Soldier), Victor Wong Chun (Fiery Diamond), Alfred Chan Ka-hei (Ambitious Heart), Vincent Ho Chak-yiu (Atullibigeal) and Harry Bentley (Grateful Heart).

Meanwhile, Dylan Mo Hin-tung – who injured his toe when dislodged from Make It Quick at Happy Valley last month – has been “passed fit to resume riding trackwork on February 7 with a view to being declared for race riding engagements at Sha Tin on February 12”.
