Daniel Moor got the ball rolling on his Hong Kong career at Happy Valley on Sunday with victory aboard the Danny Shum Chap-shing-trained Bingo Bingo, and there is no better time to capitalise on his maiden success.

As a result of suspensions and injuries there are only 15 jockeys available for Wednesday night’s Happy Valley card and Moor has eight chances to again venture back to the winner’s circle.

Joao Moreira is set to miss the next five meetings through suspension and Blake Shinn the next three, while the likes of Vincent Ho Chak-yiu, Matthew Chadwick, Matthew Poon Ming-fai, Alexis Badel and Jerry Chau Chun-lok are either out or have upcoming bans.

Add to that the fact Luke Currie will be missing for six weeks because of the unfortunate injury he suffered in a fall during a trial last week, and there are set to be plenty of opportunities for Moor to cash in.

To go with his eight rides at the midweek meeting, Moor has a full book of 10 mounts at Sha Tin on Saturday.

“Obviously riding light helps and I’m getting a couple of offers in a race now, which is really good,” Moor said.

“I’ve got a little option to find the best runner or look after my supporters, so that’s encouraging. For the next few meetings I’m looking like having a decent amount of rides.”

While Moor is hopeful he may be able to snag a Group One ride in either the Gold Cup or Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup on February 20, he admits his main focus is “to ride consistently and bang in a few more winners”.

One of Moor’s better chances of doing that at the midweek meeting looked to be aboard the David Hayes-trained Vento but he was withdrawn on Tuesday morning because of a heart irregularity, with the Australian to partner promoted runner Noble Boyz for Douglas Whyte instead.

Moor also rides Gameplayer Times for Whyte and still has two mounts for Hayes (Inestimable and Handsome Veggie), as well as climbing aboard Turin Warrior for Richard Gibson, Fortune Triple for Me Tsui Yu-sak, Shum’s President Star and The Crown for reigning champion trainer Caspar Fownes.

Meanwhile, Golden Sixty tuned up for his defence of the Gold Cup later this month with a nice 1,000m turf trial at Sha Tin on Tuesday morning.

“I was happy with the trial – that was what I wanted to see, everything is fine,” Lui said after the reigning Horse of the Year hit the line first ahead of a field of moderate opponents.

Russian Emperor shapes as Golden Sixty’s main rival in the Gold Cup and he also moved well in a Tuesday morning hit-out, while Wellington, Sky Field and Sky Darci also tuned up for their Group One assignments.
